Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel And The Weekenders. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Rachel and the Weekenders was formed in the middle of the pandemic in the summer of 2020. Featuring lead singer Rachel Brown, the band covers a wide range of pop and rock songs including Janis Joplin, Tom Petty, Miranda Lambert, Pink, and even Rage Against the Machine.
We’ve had the opportunity to play many venues in the Columbus, Ohio area and have loved every minute of it. We have upcoming gigs at Fenders, Soine Vineyards, Flint Station, and Eldorado’s. Each venue brings something unique and we love meeting new people at our shows. We continue to add songs to our set list and love to see the crowd up and dancing the night away.
In the summer of 2021, we joined a handful of other bands at Sam’s Day of Music (@SamsBarLewisCenter) to raise funds for women with cancer. Charity events are extremely rewarding as we can use our love of music to help others.
Lead Singer Rachel started singing with the Greg Hale Band in 2010 and has had the pleasure of doing acoustic duo sets with Rob Chafe, and Greg Hale as well. Rachel says “I have so much fun being on stage and collaborating with other musicians! Getting the crowd to have fun is always my goal! I love to put my own spin on old classics and to try songs that no one would expect me to try!” Rachel can be found on Instagram at @ItsJustMeRB
Lead Guitarist Tom “TC” Cummings has been playing guitar for 30+ years. Previously played in The Wayfarers, JoHio and Help Wanted. Currently the lead guitarist for Triple Creek (@TripleCreekBand). TC can be found on Instagram at @tc4tcbl
Bass Guitar Brian “Rellz” Rellinger has been playing guitar and bass for 25 years. He has played in a number of bands, including Bloodshot and Help Wanted back in his college days in Bowling Green, Ohio. He is currently the bass player for Triple Creek (@TripleCreekBand) and has played on stage with Nashville Singer / Songwriter Kelley Ann Williams (@KellAnnMusic). Brian says: “There’s nothing like being on stage and seeing people get into your music and having a great time”. Rellz can be found on Instagram at @Rellz614
Drummer Nick Brady has been playing drums for 15 years for bands including Faith in Failure and Burning Bright. He has had the opportunity to perform at popular local venues such as A&R Music Bar, Ace of Cups, Rumba Cafe, and Big Room Bar. He currently plays drums for Triple Creek and Rachel and the Weekenders and bass for local shoegaze band Meryl Creep.” Nick can be found on Instagram at @WhoIsNickBrady
Rhythm Guitarist Kevin Ellis joined us on stage for the first time in the spring of 2022. Kevin’s work on rhythm guitar helps fill out the sound and is a welcomed addition to the band. Kevin can be found on Instagram at @kev_ellis4
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic has been a challenge for sure. Many venues understandably stopped booking bands due to the lower turnouts, concerns about spreading the virus, and state / local regulations. It was difficult to practice as well as we were extra cautious if someone wasn’t feeling well. In late 2020 we wondered if we picked the wrong time to form the band but are glad, we persisted, as it has made returning to the stage worth the wait!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Each of the band members has been playing for years and across many different bands. This gives us expertise in working with the venues, booking agents, and live sound setup. Additionally, we don’t take ourselves too seriously – we just like to have fun on stage! We consider ourselves a low-maintenance, no-drama band!
