Daily Inspiration: Meet Corenza Townsend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corenza Townsend.

Hi Corenza, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am a nurse by trade-I still work in the healthcare setting (administrative leadership)-13 years.

A friend of mine was tasked with supplying the cake for a birthday party and forgot. I offered to make cupcakes at the last minute and they were a hit. I received several “orders” from attendees and the word started to travel pretty fast. Figured that would be an awesome opportunity to make it a side hustle/business!

A little history-my grandfather owned a corner store in Racine Wisconsin (I was born in Milwaukee, WI). My mother owned a restaurant for 20 years, Dinner is Done, here in Louisville. She and I now own a seasoning line based on that restaurant called Catrina’s Kitchen Southern Spices. Several direct family members own businesses as well. So, entrepreneurship runs in the family.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The journey has been smooth from a business and growth aspect, but mostly because of the timing in which I started the business and the general concept.

I started my business right before the pandemic-which, you would think is an absolute tragedy. BUT, Cabookie Cupcakes is a delivery service. We deliver the cupcakes right to your business or home (within Louisville and direct surrounding areas).

Several people, as well as businesses, used us during those crazy two years to gift friends, family, and clients-being that they were unable to physically connect.

Such a blessing at the time. It really took my company to new levels.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mentioned this in the history a little bit, but I’m a nurse by trade. I work for the leading healthcare system here in the city. I’ve been with the company for 13 years as of March. I love what I do. I love the impact on patient care and the community. …even during a pandemic. It hasn’t been easy, but very much rewarding.

I love to give back. I recently teamed up with Kentucky Kids Belong as a partner. I donate a dozen cupcakes to every child in their program for their birthday every year as requested.

My family is heavily involved in foster care-my aunt owns and operates a transitional home for displaced children as well until they can be placed with a foster family. So, it only made sense to partner with them!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a stereotypical sports mom! I pack the tents, chairs, cooling towels, fans, Gatorade/water/juice, and all the snacks (even the fancy bento boxes lol)! I play a little softball too.
