Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Sabrina Dean of Dr. Sabrina’s Healthcare Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sabrina Dean.

Hi Dr. Dean, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started as a candy striper at the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, OH while in junior high school. Upon graduating from high school, I became a Certified Nursing Assistant at the former Catalpa Manor Nursing Home located in Dayton, OH. I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, and Home Health Aide while attending Wright State University for my Nursing degree. After obtaining my nursing degree, I worked with heart patients at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, OH and advanced into Quality Management. The Quality Management position opened up several doors including opening a hospital from the ground to conducting accreditation surveys for hospitals and helping hospitals get in the black by implementing process improvement. This process ignited me to go back to school and obtain my Master degree and ultimately my Doctorate degree. After several years of working in Quality Management, I decided to take the skills I acquired over the years and become a traveling healthcare executive and start my healthcare consulting business. I am entering my 27th year as Registered Nurse and over 31 years in healthcare.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way include lack of finances, lack of sleep, and closed doors. Financially, it was a struggle paying for my undergraduate degree. I was raised in a single-parent home by my father. My mother died when I was 3 years old to brain cancer. She was 24 years old. While going to undergraduate school full-time, I worked 4 jobs to help pay for my education. While going to school full-time and working 4 jobs, I did not get my proper rest. My determination, dedication, and drive kept me awake and has led me to being successful. I was raised in a time where it was instilled in me, I can do anything I want as long as I put my mind to it. I believed this and sought after several opportunities to only be told no. No meant next opportunity. I kept going and have reached where I am today.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dr. Sabrina’s Healthcare Consulting, LLC is a business which specializes in helping businesses determine the root of their problems by implementing my systematic system to help organizations get out of the red. What sets me apart from others is I not only help organizations get in the black, I offer workshops along with a book (The M.A.R.P. Method) to ensure businesses stay in the black with my proven system. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of my book and signature program. I want readers to know I’m the In the Black Healthcare Consultant which offers coaching, speaking, and consultation for customized services.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, I have learned several important lessons due to Covid-19 crisis. I was a frontline Registered Nurse in New York in 2020 and Texas 2020-2021. I learned not to take life for granted and to enjoy the people I most value in life all the time not sometime. Additionally, with my experience in New York and Texas being on the frontline and to date, I have not contracted Covid-19. One of reasons I have not contracted Covid-19 can be found in my mini e-book, How I Survived While Working on the Frontline at www.myfrontlinevitamins.com.
