Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany McMorris.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hello, I am TfneNcole, owner of Elegant Beauty Salon, and author of A Motivational Journey. This all started as a hobby at the age of 14 doing nails at my mother’s dining room table, I can remember doing my first marbleized set of nails with the straw off of the broom. I had my mom and other individuals come and allow me to practice on them they loved their nails, I found a great interest in it and kept it as a side hustle. Let’s fast forward so I can tell you how I began my nail career, this business is ever-growing and it a billion-dollar industry so becoming serious about my business was what I needed to do.
I went on to gain my license after I lost my mother in 2009, it was as if it was a calling my name after burying her, I went to her house and checked her mail and there was a post card for open enrollment for nail school, to me that was a sign from her to go and do what I love.
I had a vision and regardless of what anyone said I kept going. I had so many obstacles come my way while trying to obtain nail school.
I wanted to give up so many times but I knew I would only fail me and I would not fulfill my dream of owning a successful salon or becoming a medical nail technologist or owning my very own nail school. What would I show my 3 children who look up to me? I could not disappoint them nor myself so failing was not an option for me.
I opened my first salon with no business experience in 2014, I asked no questions I just signed a lease.
Let me tell you I got what I what I paid for the lessons of not knowing and just doing being a salon owner were just beginning for me.
Not being business savvy sent me on an overwhelming business spiral I moved a total of 3 times before landing the location I am at now. I took full advantage once covid struck in 2020 being a small business owner and learned my business on a professional level, got all financials in order, and have been on track ever since I will say gaining a ton of knowledge and placing myself with like-minded individuals have helped my business grow in so many ways.
Giving back to the community was one of my greatest past times as a business I feel that we should give back giving is so important. I would host a book bag giveaway every year and supply the community with food, free haircuts, and a bookbag filled with school supplies, we also held a trunk a treat event by doing these events we gained plenty of exposure which helped increase the business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was definitely not a smooth one, don’t let that scare you don’t be busy be productive within your business, for me, it was worth it. The biggest struggle for me was my cancer battle while battling I experienced what a salon team really was and how important it is to have a team that understands business, while dealing with something so life-consuming the last thing you want to do is worry, the team that I have now they are by far the best set of women I have ever met we are all imperfect by perfect individually the joy, love, and peace they possess is by far amazing during my challenge.
I never gave up on my business I took care of my health but I desired to get better and fight while still trying to make my business better. I began diligently getting my finances in order doing what I could at home so that I could obtain loans, tradelines, etc. within the business. that has paid off tremendously I can now see the fruits of my labor and now after 8 years, the road is becoming to be smooth. Do not ever give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am currently a Nail Instructor at a local school in Ohio, I’ve gained my medical nail certification and can now service anyone with nail disorders as well as those that have health conditions.
I have a full-service salon full of wonderful, professional, passion-driven women. We maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and a very clean environment. My manicurist serve mimosas to guest while receiving a pedicure.
I myself specialize in Acrylics and Gel Nails; I am known for laying a great foundation. I am most proud about my nail polish line I have over 100 colors I am currently changing the brand name and I will be selling nail polish sets soon. You will be able to find them via https://linktr.ee/AElegantBeauty. My salon offers professional services nails, nail classes, hair, skin, lashes, waxes, natural hair, coloring, relaxers, weaves, and much more,
I think what sets me apart is the experience the guest receive when they come to Elegant Beauty.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson is to always be open to always be professional and teachable, listen effectively not to respond but to understand what the person is trying to teach you, we sometimes think we know everything and we do not. By being a person that knows it all you could miss out on an opportunity by speaking more than listening.
