Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyesha Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyesha Jones.

Hi Tyesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tyesha Jones and I am the owner and founder of Gifted Hands Health Solutions. We are a health and safety training organization that provides education, promotes comfort, and ensures confidence in the skills you’ll learn. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, but knowing CPR can increase someone’s chances of survival in a cardiac emergency, I am personally familiar with heart disease and the effects it can have on a life. I recently lost my father to the battle of heart disease in November 2020. Although I began my company in 2019, now more than ever I want to bring awareness to the importance of EVERYONE knowing how to do CPR not just medical professionals. Over 70% of cardiac arrest incidents occur in the home rather than in a hospital with medical professionals.

I started Gifted Hands to create a space and opportunity for people of the community to learn lifesaving skills such as CPR, and to help them get comfortable enough to actually perform these skills in real situations. I had taken countless training classes over the years myself but never felt like I had gotten enough out of the lesson to effectively do CPR in real life. I decided to become an instructor so I could offer my students multiple opportunities to physically practice and develop a sense of confidence and comfort in their skills.

My dreams are to have Gifted Hands be a one-stop shop for all things health, safety, and medical. That’s exactly what it’s manifesting to be! We currently offer a wide range of classes including Basic CPR/AED, first aid, bloodborne pathogens, BLS, ACLS, and Ohio Communicable Disease Online Courses. Aside from educational courses, we also offer premium, high-quality medical scrubs. We want you to be comfortable saving lives in all aspects!

Gifted Hands Health Solutions is committed to providing interactive training courses to everyone in the community. Our hope is to normalize the practice of CPR and other safety measures so people are more inclined to help in an emergency. We hope you join us one day soon and get comfortable saving lives.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
“There have definitely been ups and downs! I think Covid put a damper on a lot of businesses. My biggest issue related to changes with Covid has been coming up with different platforms to still be able to teach, while also keeping social distancing. For a while, virtual or even blended learning wasn’t entirely possible for my curriculum based on regulations I have to follow. Eventually, adaptations were made and now we offer eLearning and blended learning courses that allow students to take most or all of their class online.

We also are in need of more instructors so we can continue to grow. I am but one person so having a serviced-based business requires a physical presence more often than not. Setting up automations and creating workflows will be the key to allowing others to join Gifted Hands and help keep it running as intended.

Aside from business itself, I am a mother of two little boys. So juggling being a mom, working full time as a nurse, plus running my businesses is no easy task! My boys are 3 and 5 years old so they still totally depend on me for everything they need. Most days I do fairly well balancing everything on my plate, but I’m not going to lie, some days the chaos definitely wins! I have a great support system of family and friends that are willing to help when needed which has helped me successfully endure my busy journey thus far! “

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I studied nursing at the University of Toledo and graduated in 2013 with my BSN. My experience started out in mental health/chemical dependence, followed by general medicine, rehab, cardiovascular, and currently home health. Working in a number of different RN positions and specialties gave me a lot knowledge and experience, but the one that always deeply resonated with me was cardiovascular since it ran in my family.

I enjoy doing home care because I’m able to develop really personal relationships with my clients in their most comfortable space. This position also allows me to have more time at home with my family vs when I worked in the hospital setting. I absolutely hated the hours of a hospital shift lol.

I’d say I’m known for being the small, sweet, go-getter nurse. I’m always on the go, but I’m very efficient in my work, I’m a quick learner so am able to challenging tasks with little supervision fairly well.

I’m proud of myself because I’ve never stopped learning. That was something my dad instilled in me too! He always said you can never learn too much. The past few years I’ve found myself completing multiple certification programs enhancing my knowledge and my credentials.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
“In the next 5-10 years I see my community recognizing the importance of what my business teaches. I believe the virtual/e-learning platforms will evolve and allow students even more convenience.

Gifted Hands will start to host an annual #CPRJam in honor of my late father. The first one will be held May 22nd which is just a few days after his birthday. It will be a day to highlight the simplest, yet most important skill you could ever learn while having fun and enjoying fellowship with others in the community. I’m truly excited for this event and believe that it will grow tremendously in the years to come.

I see my business eventually being something like an entire school. On one side it will have the Gifted Hands Scrubs shop, and on the other side we’ll host all of training classes. I look forward to expanding my team and seeing my dreams come to fruition! “
