Check Out Tyra Jackson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Jackson.

Hi Tyra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve always had a huge passion for helping others which is the core reason why I started this organization. Helping people has always been a passion of mine I started my organization by helping to give things like food bags and hygiene products. I’ve made an effort to feed children their after-school meals, assisted with obtaining vouchers for ID/birth certificate replacement programs in addition to educating pregnant woman on infant mortality and breastfeeding in my past job duties. These duties gave me the foundation for running my own nonprofit. The Caring was started in 2020 the beginning of pandemic, me with no car just catching the RTA bus or rapid downtown Cleveland passing out hygiene bags and snack bags to the unhoused. I started to use my networking skills and came up with a list of organizations I needed to reach out to for guidance, donations, or support. Our support system which I call THE VILLAGE has truly been so supportive with every project and of course standing by our mission to lend a hand in the time of need because we care. Our social media has grown and because of the dedication of our supporters “THE VILLAGE” we’ve made a major impact throughout the Northeast Ohio.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say learning how to run a nonprofit is an experience in itself, choosing who you’re going to serve and what programs would be more of an impact on the community and getting a space like a permanent building location instead of working from home.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We distributed family care baskets filled with PPE, hygiene, and cleaning supplies and individuals can also request them. The need in the unhoused community is incredibly high and because of this, we fill bookbags with hygiene kits, bottled water, socks, clothing, and snacks that we distributed around the city of Cleveland. We provide pack n plays to mothers 32 weeks or more this is in effort to help reduce the infant mortality rate in Cleveland, Ohio. We also give diapers and wipes, clothing, strollers, and other baby items if we have them. Supporting families building great memories is also important to us so we take them out on family outings for free for example: hockey games. Hosting or participating in community engagements with other agencies is important to us. We know it truly takes a village and we are excited to be a part of this village. None of this would be possible without the help of all our Partner organizations and generous donors, The Caring will continue to diligently work throughout the community as we stand by our mission of lending a hand

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a people person and loved to help. I love art as well as classical music which I’ve listen to since I was 11 that’s when I fell in love. It can tell such a beautiful story.
