Rising Stars: Meet Jordan Barker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Barker. 

Hi Jordan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always loved telling a story. I’m a person who daydreams of ideas, whether it’s to a song or just a moment in time. I was always drawn to photography, but never knew what I would do. I felt like everyone around me was a photographer and AMAZING ones at that. In October of 2021, I gave birth to my second child. I did things a little different this time and gave birth in my living room! I spent the better part of 2021 preparing for this birth mentally, and physically, so I would be ready for that day. It turns out, all my knowledge flew out the window during my 23 hour and 40 min labor. I was grateful to be surrounded by so much love because that got me through. It made me realize how truly beautiful birth is. I look back at my photos and think WOW, I’m so grateful I have these… SO here I am! I jumped into birth work. While my primary focus is on birth photography, maternity, and newborn, I am expanding into other areas- elopements and portraits. I love photography so much; I couldn’t just go for one style. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am still fairly new, I’m a baby photographer, so it’s been difficult. Finding the right balance of pricing and marketing, but also not getting discouraged. I say it can be mental battle some days! I try to remember why I started; offering a service, I love, to my community 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, I specialize in the birth world. It spans from gender reveal, to maternity, to birth and infant photography, with a big emphasis on birth! BUT I love capturing any kind of love, so I offer elopements, couples, families, and portraits! 

I’m so proud to be a photographer. I feel like I provide a fun, inclusive, and open environment for creativity and authenticity of self! 

How do you define success?
My success is measured by happiness of myself and my clients. While money motivates many, including myself in some manner, smiles are my successes. Seeing others find confidence, love, and joy, in their photos – that’s success
