Check Out Hassan Ahmad’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hassan Ahmad.

Hi Hassan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Hassan, and I’m a self-taught graphic designer in sports. I started off in 2014 doing graphic design just when I was 12 years old. I used to make designs of athletes using a variety of apps and would post them on my Instagram account, Epicsportspro to showcase it. I kept posting everything I created and kept practicing from time to time while growing out my page too. In 2017, I started to transition into Photoshop and from there my work really started to improve as I had a lot more options in what I could do on there to make my artwork better. Where I am today, things have really changed significantly from where I first started. I’m in my first year of college now and have nearly 8 years of experience in graphic design now. I’ve been very blessed to have clients within the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NCAA. I’ve gotten my work noticed by many NBA teams that I love to watch like the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and more. I’m always doing my best to improve and hope to become a graphic designer for a sports team one day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles have come along the way for me. Personally, it’s just been hard when I’ve spent a lot of time working on a design just to see it get unnoticed, but at the moment the biggest obstacle that has come along for me is the job search. I have lots of freelance design experience but I want to take the next step and apply to jobs in sports where I can find a team that I can create graphics for, but also learn from other talented individuals. It’s been tough hearing back from the team’s HR department to hear that they didn’t go through with my application. I’m still really young and have lots of time to find a job in sports, but lately, I’ve been feeling really confident about my work and can’t give up right now. I sense a big opportunity that will come on the way despite all the challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in graphic design work, particularly in sports. I’ve been known for this, but also for having different unique styles of my art. I can make photo manipulations, retouches, and different abstract, vibrant artwork with unique compositions. Something I’m most proud of is being able to get recognized by a variety of NBA teams, and athletes from different sports leagues. To be able to see my work on a team’s page with millions of followers just blows my mind. I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I won’t always be doing the same type of art style and that you can see a big difference in my art as time goes on. You can look at a design of mine from the past week and compare it to last month, and it’ll be a significant improvement from then.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I would say it would have to be my experience. A lot of people who follow my work or know about my work don’t know how long I’ve been doing it. I look at some of these designers that I follow and talk to, and most of them started during quarantine just 2 years ago, or just after then. I’ve only met a few other graphic designers who have been around since I started, and are still designing. Sometimes I find it surprising to myself too, just knowing I really got into this when I was in the 6th grade and 12 years old.
