Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Taylor.
Hi Chuck, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the foreclosure industry in 2001 working for a mortgage field services company. After working there for over four years, I truly had my fill of the corporate lifestyle and desperately wanted to be independent. So, in December of 2005 I quit that job and officially started The Taylor Shop, LLC. We were a data processing company within the mortgage field industry. Let me briefly explains some functions in my industry. There is a somewhat lengthy process when a property is getting foreclosed on and one major function is documentation of a property. When a property is foreclosed, the bank will want to see what the property looks like. Contractors will go to the property, change the locks for access, winterize to protect the property and remove hazardous debris and dispose of it properly. They have to take before and after photos to show the work was completed as well as place bids for any other issues needed to protect the property. The Taylor Shop would take that information from the contractors and properly format and place bids for all issues in the mortgage field company’s website. I did this for 14 years, grew the company to processing over 200 work orders a day, employed three amazing female processors plus myself and partner. We were nationally and internationally known company within this industry. Numerous foreign companies started up and became our ‘competition’, offering cheap prices and even cheaper quality of work, as it were.
Quickly, we became the go to company for work order processing in the mortgage field industry. In 2019, I changed directions and moved over to providing independent mobile real estate services. I complete weekly property inspections, gain access to properties for assessment, re-key and re-securing properties, pre-purchase inspections for investors, project manager for rehabs, ‘de-facto’ property manager and eviction assistance. The list is somewhat endless as I am asked to do new and interesting tasks every day. One of the main goals and reasons I love what I do is because; we are saving neighborhoods! The efforts my clients and myself are engaging in are taking a property in Cleveland that is condemned, falling apart and inviting criminals and drug users inside and saving it. We bring properties back from certain death or in reality, being demolished. We are striving to save lower-income neighborhoods in Cleveland thus putting tenants or owners in the vacant properties and helping to secure and unify Cleveland communities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I have faced in my business in this industry is finding reliable and problem-solving workers. Every day we have to think outside the box to find resolution to problems. I don’t like to think about my business as running smooth but more progressive and consistent. As long as we keep moving forward, knocking out problems as they occur and in property rehabs, it’s a daily occurrence, I stay happier. In regards to property rehabs, finding reliable and qualified contractors is the biggest challenge. We have seen a decrease in quality-driven contractors in the Cleveland area for some time now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TaylorMade Services CLE?
I provide real estate services to investors, agents and brokers. Some of the tasks I complete on a daily basis are: property inspections, pre-purchase inspections, re-securing properties, gaining access into any type of property, occupancy checks, eviction assistance, project management of rehab projects, property management, etc. I am asked to complete new and unusual tasks every day. I have been working on and assessing foreclosed and occupied properties for over 15 years, I have worked for mortgage field companies as an employee, worked in every expected and unexpected situation in the field and pioneered some data processing practices still completed today. I have never paid for marketing for my business other than creating a website. I have obtained new clients by word of mouth and learning about networking on social media platforms.
What does success mean to you?
Persistence.
