Daily Inspiration: Meet John Osborn

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Osborn.

John, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always wanted to own my own business since high school. About 20 years later I became the owner of Little Hugo’s. From what information I can find we are the oldest Ice cream store in town and was originally a Dairy Queen. We have updated the logo and revamped the menu. Over the years we have been investing heavily in the building and equipment. We employ anywhere from 25-35 people. My wife and I both work other jobs while I also run the business itself. We help support many of the local youth sports through sponsorships and donations. We take pride in teaching our staff about real life job experiences and preparing them for their future. We hope to continue serving our community for many years to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been bumpy along the way dealing with employee shortages due having to compete with the higher wages that the big corporations are able to offer. Machine breakdowns and deterioration of the property from years of neglect have required a lot of reinvestments.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a soft serve Ice cream shoppe. We also offer a small variety of food such as shredded chicken sandwiches and chicken chunks. I’m proud of the shredded chicken because it is my recipe and it is a popular item. Our sizes are generally the largest around.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We have two colleges in town that we like working with. We are one of five ice cream shoppes in town which makes it very competitive.
