Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Gibson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2013, I was already photographing weddings when I decided to add boudoir to my business. At the time, I honestly thought it would just be something fun to offer. I took a few workshops, learned a handful of poses, reserved a beautiful hotel suite, and jumped in. There was no professional hair and makeup, no wardrobe guidance, no luxury products. Clients received digital images on a USB, and that was the experience.

Then my very first boudoir client walked through the door.

She fit every conventional beauty standard. She was young, fit, and absolutely gorgeous. From a photographer’s perspective, she made my job easy. Creating beautiful images wasn’t the challenge.

What happened after her session changed the course of my career.

She told me she’d never felt so confident or beautiful.

That stopped me in my tracks.

Here was a woman the world would call “perfect,” yet she had never truly seen herself that way until that day. It made me realize boudoir was never really about the photos. It was about helping women see themselves the way the people who love them already do.

That moment became my mission.

I knew I didn’t want to simply offer a photo shoot. I wanted to create an experience that transformed the way women felt about themselves. So I started learning more and more about posing, lighting, expression coaching, advanced retouching, lingerie education, and even became a certified bra fitter so I could better help women find pieces that truly flattered their bodies. I introduced professional hair and makeup, curated luxury heirloom albums and artwork, and eventually opened my first dedicated studio.

Today, more than a decade later, 614 Boudoir has photographed well over a thousand women. The experience has evolved in every possible way, but the heart behind it hasn’t changed.

That very first client is still displayed on the wall of my studio. She reminds me every single day why I started, and why I continue to do this work. Every woman who walks through my doors deserves to leave seeing herself differently than when she arrived.

And that’s still the mission.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business, there have been plenty of bumps along the way. I’ve outgrown multiple studios, navigated the uncertainty of COVID, and built this business while having and raising two babies. There were seasons where I was working on marketing while I pumped, or editing during nap time, and you can still catch me answering emails after bedtime. I’m figuring things out as I go.

Every challenge forced me to become a better business owner. Outgrowing a space meant the business was growing. COVID challenged me to rethink the client experience and become even more intentional. Becoming a mom has made me clearer on my boundaries and what I offer clients.

Running a business is rarely a straight line. There are difficult days, unexpected setbacks, and moments where you question yourself. But every obstacle has shaped 614 Boudoir into what it is today.

When I look back, I don’t see the roadblocks nearly as much as I see the women whose lives have been impacted, the relationships I’ve built, and the community that’s trusted me with some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. That has made every challenge absolutely worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At 614 Boudoir, I specialize in creating luxury boudoir experiences that help women see themselves differently. While the photographs are beautiful, they’re really just the lasting reminder of something much bigger. My job is to help women walk into the studio feeling nervous, uncertain, or convinced they’re “not photogenic,” and leave feeling confident, empowered, and genuinely proud of the woman they see.

Over the past decade, I’ve photographed more than 1,000 women from every age, body type, career, and season of life. From brides celebrating a new chapter to moms rediscovering themselves, women navigating divorce, milestone birthdays, cancer survivors, and women who simply decided they were finally worthy of doing something for themselves, every session is tailored to who they are. My approach is fully guided from start to finish. I coach every pose, every expression, and every movement, so my clients never have to wonder what to do or whether they’re doing it “right.”

I think what sets me apart is that I’ve never believed boudoir is about lingerie or looking a certain way. It’s about creating a space where women feel completely safe, seen, and celebrated. The technical side absolutely matters. Years of studying posing, lighting, body mechanics, wardrobe, and expression are what allow me to photograph every woman in a way that’s flattering and authentic. But it’s the experience they have while they’re here that truly changes people.

I’m incredibly proud that 614 Boudoir has been voted Best of Columbus five years in a row, but even more than the awards, I’m proud that so much of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients. There’s no greater compliment than having a woman trust me enough to send her sister, her best friend, her daughter, or come back years later because she wants to experience that feeling again.

At the end of the day, I don’t just want my clients to love their photographs. I want them to leave believing something new about themselves. That’s the part of this work that never gets old.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that surprises people is that, despite spending my career helping women see their own beauty, I wasn’t always able to see mine.

When I was getting married, I desperately wanted to do a boudoir session as a gift for my husband. But I talked myself out of it. I convinced myself I needed to lose weight first, that my body wasn’t the “right” shape, and that maybe boudoir was for other women… not someone like me. At the time, I simply didn’t believe I was enough.

It wasn’t until 2015, after I’d already been photographing boudoir clients for a couple of years, that I finally stepped in front of the camera myself. I traveled to Cleveland for my own session, and I remember feeling every single nerve my clients tell me about today.

That experience changed me.

For the first time, I understood firsthand what it feels like to surrender control, trust someone else, and allow yourself to be seen. I also realized something I wish every woman knew: confidence doesn’t come before the session. More often than not, it’s the result of it.

I still book my own boudoir session every few years. Not because I need new photos, but because I need the reminder. Life changes us. Our bodies change. Our confidence ebbs and flows. I believe I should never stop giving myself the same grace, encouragement, and experience that I ask my clients to give themselves.

I don’t just believe in boudoir because I’m a photographer. I believe in it because I’ve been the woman sitting on the other side of the camera, wondering if I was enough. And I know now that I always was.
