Life & Work with Kristen LePrevost of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen LePrevost.

Hi Kristen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Good Neighbor Thrift Shop was started in spring of 1979 by members of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ as a way to help raise money to go towards mission work. Over the years the shop has expanded so now we were able to donate over $460,000 to charities in 2025. Our focus is charities supporting:

Poverty

Hunger

Homelessness

Refugee resettlement

Domestic violence

Addiction / Recovery

Dementia Support

We also are available to the community to help anyone in need of items such as clothing, furniture, etc.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We struggled to navigate having a shop during the pandemic but with the support of the church, our amazing volunteers and community we were able to reopen and begin helping others again.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My past experience blends working with others as well as working in the estate sale field so I have an understanding of what people are looking for in a thrift shop as well as how we can best serve our community to help those in need.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
It’s always been important to me that the Thrift shop is a welcoming, fun and inclusive place for all of our customers, volunteers and donors. They are all just as passionate about our mission to help others as I am so we all come together for a good cause
