Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Nickley.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband and I was intrigued when learning about salt rooms. About 12 years ago, we drove a ways to try one and left wow’d and planning our next trip back. We wished there was one closer.
Words cannot express how you feel after a halotherapy (salt therapy) session. The salt produces negative ions to help get the body to a calmer state. It is like a reset and refresh that is great for overall wellbeing. The salt acts like a gentle scrubber cleaning out sinuses and lungs resulting in larger lung capacity and the body intaking more oxygen. When the body is getting more oxygen, organs function better, people notice better sleep and less anxious improving mental health. Salt therapy is great for all ages. Helps anyone from those with chronic health conditions to athletes increasing endurance. Great for lung conditions like asthma and COPD, allergies, colds, lingering coughs, mold exposure, and skin conditions. The salt is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory.
After having my second daughter, I realized that my fatigue was more than just mom fatigue, something more was wrong and I wanted to get to the root cause. I came across Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Certification Program and took the leap of faith to get started in hopes to recover my own health. In 2016, I became a FDN Practitioner and reclaimed my health. After all my studies and experiences, I realized that alternative therapies provide so many benefits. This led me to open Salt + Light Wellness Center on the eastside of Cincinnati in Downtown Milford in 2024. The wellness center is complete with a Halotherapy Salt Room, Red Light Therapy, and Practitioners to help people live and feel better.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning your own business is like being on a roller coaster with lots of highs and lows. Winter stays pretty booked but once spring hits, it slows down and then really slows down over summer. If we stayed fully booked year round, it would be great and definitely a smoother ride.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mentioned some of that in the earlier question.
My husband and three daughters along with some friends and family helped us bring new life to a space that was a hair salon since the 40’s. We worked long hours after work and school to transition the space with a mix of old and new to what is now the salt room
The salt room is family friendly welcoming kids and pets. We’ve helped people overcome acute and chronic illnesses. It is so rewarding to hear from a client the next day that their cough for 3 months is mostly gone or while when people finish their session and already breathing and feeling better. The salt room is the size of a small living room and fit a group of people. I created it specifically for a place for people and families to take the time to slow down and connect in the salt room. Stress is the #1 cause of illness. We have normalized to stay busy and that self care is optional. One can come to the salt room alone or bring a group. It is great for families, friend groups, bachelorette parties, and corporate team building and wellness events. We event host a weekly salty seniors group every Thursday at 2:00 for anyone over 65 at a discounted rate for wellness and community. Halotherapy is life changing and our hope is that everyone tries it. Kids enjoy playing in the salt pit and ask to come back to the salt room when they get a runny nose. It stimulates all of their senses and that is very therapeutic for a kid.
A halotherapy salt room session lasts 45 minutes.
In addition to the salt room, red light therapy, and Functional Health Coaching, we offer special events like Sound Bowls in the salt room, Mother + Daughter Spa days, Ladies Nights as well as couple massages. We have a few massage therapists offer services including manual lymphatic drainage and myofascial release technique.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am starting to venture out to offer salt therapy for horses. I grew up with horses and I am looking forward to offering this amazing service to these majestic animals.
Downtown Milford has grown so much over the past few years and is continuing to grow. I am hoping to grow into a newer larger space soon as my current space is small.
