Exploring Life & Business with Hadassah Holbrook of Haddie V Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hadassah Holbrook.

Hi Hadassah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been to stay at home mom for six years now and I knew that I wanted to stay home and raise my children instead of someone else raising them. I have quit my day job when my first baby was born and I have been working part-time as a mother helper with my child, and it was hard at times, but we managed. After my second daughter was born, I’ve decided to look into something where I could be working from home and still provide for my family. So I’ve looked into photography. Photography hasn’t always been on my mind.
I have a friend who is a wedding photographer and she has been very encouraging in some of her stories on Instagram about how photography has changed her life for the better. She has been working only on the weekends and staying home with her children. I’ve reached out to her and she decided to help me start.
After that, I decided to take it seriously, I’ve did different niche photography for a long time, trying to figure out which type of photography is best suited for me..
In 2023 I did my first Newborn photography that was also lifestyle photography and from then on I knew that this type of photography is my favorite. I love Newborn, I loved babies, I knew I have the patience with them so I decided to pursue Newborn photography further.
During that time we were remodeling our house still, and we were working on our mudroom. I knew what style of the bathroom I wanted, white with black, we put the shelf in and hooks and other stuff. After a while, we did a shiplap wall that is really tall and after a while, I’ve looked at the room and I told my husband I think I can do Newborn photography in this room. My husband was totally chill with that, and he loved the idea and decided to give me a chance.
So to see if that idea would work, I obviously had model babies, which obviously took me a long time because that was my first time officially to have newborn babies in my “studio”. The parents have loved the pictures, since then I’ve started charging just a little bit to see if I can make any money off of it and I did.
To pursue my career further I had to take some classes, meet other Newborn photographers and just get some type of a certification. And that’s what I did, I found a Newborn photographer who has been working for years and who specialize in Newborn photography in Columbus area, and I went to her. She was an amazing teacher, very patient with Newborn and I knew that this is it. I received my certification later that day, which since then has grown a lot. I love that I get same clients with a different baby. Most of them are just coming back to me.
Most importantly, I love the idea that I still stay home now with three of my babies and still help my husband provide for the family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve definitely had some ups and downs. I’ve had babies who have been very much irritated the entire time they were in my studio and I could hardly pose them. I’ve still gotten shots, but it was just rough. The parents have loved the pictures still but during those times I remember thinking is this truly what I wanna do? Since then, I realized that not every day is perfect and not every baby is perfect. Babies are different. Some babies are just harder than the others.

We’ve been impressed with Haddie V Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Newborn studio is located at my home in Burton. I specialize in Newborn photography specifically and that’s what most people in my area know me for.
There are lots of photographers there, but you have to realize that doing Newborn photography is not for everyone. You have to have the patience, it’s not just telling people what to do or how to pose, it’s all about you doing the posing and you making sure that the baby is comfortable and the baby is not hurt.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think one of the best blessings that I’ve had so far about this business is that my husband was able to redo our entire mudroom and make it as my Newborn photography studio.
