Today we’d like to introduce you to Axton Mitchell.

Hi Axton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been drawn to the space where different forms of creative expression overlap. Think of places where real personal reflection meets structured storytelling.

My journey really took off when I began treating writing not just as a casual pastime, but as an intentional, daily practice. I started publishing multi-layered articles, poetry, nature essays, and creative prompts online. A lot of these focus on themes of nature, personal transformation, deep reflection, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

That passion eventually grew into founding Poeaxtry, a small business and independent publishing outlet and creative brand. What began as a personal home for my own writing evolved into a multi-platform venture

Getting to where I am today hasn’t been a linear path, it’s been built on late nights, continuous experimentation, and a commitment to pitching and publishing work consistently across different publications. Whether I’m drafting monthly magazine features, working on personal literary projects, or designing new creative resources for my community, the core mission has stayed the same: crafting work that encourages people to pause, reflect, and look a little closer at the world around them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been more like a rugged trail with plenty of steep climbs and unexpected turns.
One of the biggest struggles early on was simply managing energy and time. Balancing real-world demands, including overnight shifts in healthcare, while trying to build an independent publishing brand like Poeaxtry from the ground up required a massive amount of discipline.
There were countless late nights and early mornings where I had to find the focus to write, design, and run the operational side of a business when I was already running on low fuel.

Another challenge was learning the mechanics of independence. When you run your own brand and publish your own work, you aren’t just the writer… you’re the editor, the curator, the web designer, the strategist, and the marketer.

Figuring out how to navigate digital platforms, manage storefronts across Payhip, Gumroad, and Etsy, and pitch work consistently to external publications meant wearing a dozen different hats at once. Creative flow doesn’t always align with business logistics, so finding harmony between artistic expression and administrative momentum took trial, error, and patience.

Ultimately, those struggles shaped the depth of the work. The long hours taught me efficiency, and the obstacles forced me to be intentional about every piece I put out into the world. The road wasn’t smooth, but every bump refined the vision and made reaching each milestone that much more rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At its core, my work lives where creative writing and the natural world meet. As a writer, publisher, and founder of Poeaxtry, I specialize in multi-layered essays, articles, and poetry, including monthly magazine features.

I hike weekly, and I make hiking journals, which I publish online for other hikers. They are not just basic trail logs; they are reflective, multi-sensory accounts of time spent in nature.
I also design and sell physical journals and creative tools through my storefronts to help others build their own reflective practices.
I am most proud of building a completely self-sustained home for my work. I take real-life trail moments and late-night creative sessions and turn them directly into published pieces and tangible products.
What sets me apart is that grounded mix: my writing is lived, walked, and written in real time, offering readers both immersive storytelling and practical tools to reconnect with their own surroundings.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, my main focus is scaling the impact and reach of Poeaxtry. I plan to spend even more time on the trails, expanding my hiking journals and bringing new wilderness perspective to my readers.
On the publication side, a major step forward is opening our platform to feature community-published pieces from other writers and creators. Elevating outside voices and building a collaborative home for reflective writing is a huge priority for the next chapter.
I am also actively obtaining more specialized gear to help create tangible resources designed to support people in their own creative and outdoor journeys. Whether through expanded publishing, practical tools, or new trail projects, the goal is to keep growing an authentic, resource-rich space for our community.
