Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Everett.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to work that brings people together and creates meaningful opportunities for others to make a difference. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about building programs, strengthening organizations, and finding ways to turn big ideas into lasting impact.

That passion led me to Seeds of Caring, where I found the perfect intersection of everything I care about: empowering children, supporting families, and helping communities grow stronger through kindness and service. From the beginning, I was inspired by the organization’s belief that empathy isn’t something children are simply born with—it’s something they learn by practicing it.

As Seeds of Caring continued to grow, I had the incredible opportunity to help lead one of the organization’s most exciting milestones: expanding our programming into Indianapolis. Launching in a new city meant much more than simply offering programs in a different location. It involved building relationships with nonprofit partners, schools, volunteers, and families; adapting our model to meet the needs of a new community; and creating a strong foundation that would allow the organization to thrive for years to come. Watching children and families in Indianapolis embrace service and kindness has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Today, I serve as Director of Programming & Operations, where I oversee programming across both our Columbus and Indianapolis regions. I have the privilege of working alongside an incredibly dedicated team to ensure that every experience we offer is meaningful, engaging, and impactful for children, families, schools, and nonprofit partners. From developing new programs and strengthening existing ones to supporting staff and creating systems that help us grow sustainably, my focus is always on making it easier for kids to discover the joy of helping others.

One of the things I love most about Seeds of Caring is that we’re not just creating volunteer opportunities—we’re helping raise a generation of compassionate leaders. Every service project gives a child the chance to realize that they have the power to make someone else’s day a little brighter and their community a little stronger. Knowing that our work helps children develop empathy, confidence, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others is what motivates me every day.

As we continue to grow, I’m excited about expanding our reach even further so that more children and families have the opportunity to experience the simple but powerful truth at the heart of Seeds of Caring: no one is too young to make a difference.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any growing nonprofit, the journey hasn’t always been smooth – but every challenge has reinforced why this work matters.

Expanding Seeds of Caring into Indianapolis was both exciting and humbling. While we had a successful model in Columbus, we quickly learned that every community is unique. Building trust with new nonprofit partners, schools, volunteers, and families takes time, and there are no shortcuts to creating meaningful, lasting relationships. We had to listen first, learn what was needed locally, and thoughtfully adapt while staying true to our mission.

As we’ve grown, another challenge has been balancing expansion with quality. We never want to grow simply for the sake of growth. Every program, partnership, and family experience needs to reflect the high standard of care that Seeds of Caring is known for. That means continually refining processes, supporting our team, and building systems that allow us to grow sustainably without losing the personal touch that makes our work special.

The nonprofit world also comes with its share of uncertainty. Resources can be limited, priorities shift, and there is always more need than any one organization can meet. But I’ve found that those challenges also bring out the best in people. Our staff, volunteers, nonprofit partners, and families consistently come together with creativity, flexibility, and an unwavering commitment to helping kids become compassionate changemakers.

Looking back, every obstacle has helped us become a stronger organization. It’s reminded me that meaningful impact isn’t built overnight – it’s built one relationship, one family, and one act of kindness at a time. Watching children discover that they have the power to make a difference makes every challenge along the way worthwhile.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As Director of Programming & Operations at Seeds of Caring, my role is equal parts strategy, collaboration, and heart. I have the privilege of leading our programming and operations across both Columbus and Indianapolis, working with an incredible team to create meaningful service experiences that help children develop empathy, confidence, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Much of my work happens behind the scenes – developing programs, building systems, supporting staff, cultivating community partnerships, and ensuring every family, volunteer, school, and nonprofit has a positive experience. My goal is to create the foundation that allows our team to focus on what matters most: giving kids opportunities to discover that they can make a real difference in their communities.

What I’m most proud of is helping expand Seeds of Caring into Indianapolis and seeing it grow into a thriving community of young changemakers. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch an idea become something that families embrace and nonprofit partners rely on. Knowing that children in two cities are learning empathy through hands-on service because of the work our team has done together is something I’ll never take for granted.
I also believe one of my greatest strengths is building strong teams and creating systems that allow people to do their best work. Sustainable impact doesn’t happen because of one person—it happens when talented, passionate people are supported, trusted, and united around a shared mission. I love bringing people together, solving challenges collaboratively, and creating processes that help our organization grow without losing the personal connections that make Seeds of Caring so special.

What sets Seeds of Caring apart – and what I’m honored to help steward—is that we don’t simply offer volunteer opportunities. Every experience is intentionally designed to help children understand why they’re serving, who they’re helping, and how even small acts of kindness can create lasting change. We’re not just inspiring kids to volunteer today; we’re helping raise compassionate leaders for tomorrow.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People often assume that because I oversee programming and operations, my work is mostly about logistics, systems, and strategy. While those things are certainly part of my role, what continually surprises people is how much of my work is really about relationships.

Some of the most important parts of my job aren’t found on a project plan or in a meeting agenda—they happen by listening, asking thoughtful questions, and helping people feel connected to a shared purpose. Whether it’s supporting a teammate, brainstorming with a nonprofit partner, or watching a child discover they can make a difference, those moments are what energize me most.

At the end of the day, I believe strong systems matter because they create space for meaningful human connection. That’s the part of my work I hope people remember.
