Conversations with Matthew Novick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Novick.

Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It’s amazing to think about the journey so far… Starting off as a simple DJ at age 16 just playing CDs, vinyls and cassettes. After those first few years of getting the basics down pat, it was really during college when I began to see things evolve more; Expanding from simple parties to the local nightlife scene and more significant private events.. It was really exciting to see all that hard work had finally been paying off! Things really kicked into the next level during my time at iHeartRadio too – Between my regular on-air commentary on the legendary 100.7 WMMS and my DJ mixshow role at stations like KISS FM, the name “Mattitude” really started to get out there. Fast forwarding to today, I strive to continue that momentum in a great number of ways. Whether it’s continuing to create content on social media, ensuring a client has the best experience with one of their events, or brainstorming ways to even further my creativity, there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think it’s pretty normal to say there are highs and lows with everything in life. It seems like one truly does not come without the others. I think keeping this in mind is the best way to move past these obstacles. Remember that highlight reel, and be present to take the moments for granted when you’re in them! You’ll tend to find that’s more times than not.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think one of the most important things for an artist to consider is their identity, in the way of how they want to articulate this vision to the world. This spans entirely from creative abilities, talent, and output capabilities, to their ability to navigate socially or conduct professional business. You could be one of the most talented craftsmen in your area of work, but are you reliable? Are you organized, or have some sort of strategy in mind rather than aimlessly creating? These topics are not so relevant for a stay-at-home hobbyist… However, if you want to be able to take things to further levels, characteristics such as your reputation of good work become increasingly relevant, and in the end are just as important as any other piece of your craft’s artistry. I try to take that same outlook into my real world approach by providing the best customer service I can for clients, and continuing to build a reputation as of the market’s premiere talent choices.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
This goes back to the highs and lows perspective from before. There are times where it seems you’re on fire, and nothing could go wrong again. Other times, it may feel like you’re trying to start a fire underwater and just can’t seem to find any progression. Being proactive during the high periods always helps during the low ones, which are essentially inevitable to happen. So then, during the low ones, you can be more prepared to hold course, weather the storm and come out the other side.
