Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Eakins.
Hi Scott, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I guess you can say my story started around 6th grade when we had a career day. One of the careers I chose to view was graphic design. From that point on I knew that’s what I wanted to do. After high school I pursued graphic design in college ending up at the School of Advertising Arts. This is where I learned a lot of my digital art skills. And towards the end of my schooling I got an internship with a sign company. Before I graduated the sign company offered me a job and I started out as a designer in the sign industry. At that time I was designing graphics for signs and vehicle wraps. I fell in love with designing and applying the wrap graphics. At that time I started doing stripes and small wrap jobs on the side at a small business I worked for since high school. After a few years at the sign shop as a head designer I moved on to another shop to become more involved with the wrap installations. I worked my way up at that shop from wrap installer to wrap manager. All the while I kept doing small wrap jobs on the weekends. After about 10 years of doing these side wrap projects my name had grown in the area and the business I was working for offered me a partnership to start a wrap company of my own. Ever since then I have been running my own shop specializing in custom car wraps and personalization of vehicles.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say everything has been relatively smooth along my journey. For me things seem to have fallen into place. Like the path was just laid out before me, I just had to follow it. That’s not to say there hasn’t been times of struggle. I think with any business there will be times when you’re not sure how you’ll make it but I feel it’s those times that with persistence you can come out on top.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I design and wrap cars for a living. This may be something that people often overlook or don’t even notice or think about it being artistic. My whole life I wanted to be an artist and sell my artwork. As I grew older and worked in the wrap industry I realized how much artistry goes into designing and installing vinyl wraps. I fell in love with the it and realized I could exercise my artistic abilities in this field. I feel that I stand apart and specialize in designing creative ideas for graphics and wraps on vehicles. I try to think out of the box and present many creative ideas to my clients. I work with the clients from start to finish on every project and treat every project like it is an art piece going out into the world. I think my time in the industry as well as my artistic background help me provide creativity and quality to my work. I love especially to work on theme cars and have several Ghostbusters theme cars in the area that are fairly well known.
Any big plans?
I’m always looking forward to the next project. There are some projects in the pipeline that will definitely be fun. Long term I would like to get a building of my own one day and build to be my car wrap sanctuary. Where I can continue to grow the business and love what I’m doing.
