Life & Work with Meredith Kessler of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Kessler.

Hi Meredith, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where sports were simply a way of life. I played four varsity sports in high school and was fortunate to later be inducted into my high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Those early years taught me the value of hard work, resilience, teamwork, and showing up every day—lessons that have shaped every chapter of my life.

I earned a Division I athletic scholarship to Syracuse University, where I competed in both field hockey and track. After graduating in 2000, I used my graduation money to buy my very first triathlon bike. Just two weeks later, I lined up at my first full IRONMAN®. Looking back, it probably wasn’t the most conventional way to enter the sport, but crossing that finish line changed the course of my life forever.

Over the next 25+ years, I had the privilege of racing professionally around the world, completing 76 full-distance IRONMAN races and earning 11 IRONMAN victories and 23 IRONMAN 70.3 titles. While I’m incredibly grateful for the podium finishes and championships, the greatest gift the sport gave me wasn’t the medals—it was the people, the places, and the lifelong lessons in perseverance, humility, gratitude, and believing that we are capable of far more than we think.

Today, those lessons have become the foundation of my next chapter. As a coach, speaker, and mentor, my passion is helping others discover their own potential, whether they’re chasing an athletic goal, navigating a life transition, or simply striving to become healthier and happier. My coaching philosophy has always been about training for life, not just for race day.

Most importantly, I am a wife to my high school sweetheart, Aaron, and a proud mom to our two boys, Mak and Crew. My family is my greatest purpose, and they continually remind me that success is measured far more by the impact we have on others than by any finish line we cross. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that with consistency, gratitude, and a willingness to embrace the unknown, extraordinary things can happen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. While people often see the wins, podiums, and championships, they rarely see the struggles that made those moments possible.

Over my professional career, I’ve completed 76 IRONMAN races—but I also have five “Did Not Finish” (DNF) results. Those races hurt. You invest months of preparation, make countless sacrifices, and sometimes, despite giving everything you have, you simply don’t reach the finish line. Those moments are humbling, but they have also been some of my greatest teachers.

I’ve also experienced serious bike crashes, injuries, illness, setbacks, and seasons where things simply didn’t go according to plan. Endurance sport has a way of reminding you that success is never guaranteed and that progress is rarely linear. There are incredible highs and equally difficult valleys.

Over time, I realized that failure isn’t the opposite of success—if we don’t fail, if we don’t lose, what will drive us to be better? Every setback challenged me to become more patient, more resilient, more grateful, and more determined than before. We can never let success get to our heads nor failures to our hearts.

Looking back, I wouldn’t erase those difficult moments because they shaped who I am today. They taught me that our greatest victories often happen long before we cross a finish line. They happen when we choose to get back up, believe in ourselves again, and keep moving forward despite uncertainty. That mindset has served me not only in sport, but in every aspect of my life—as a wife, mom, coach, and mentor.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I wear several hats that all revolve around one mission: helping people realize they’re capable of more than they ever imagined.

As a coach, speaker, and mentor, I work with athletes of all ages and abilities—from first-time runners and triathletes to seasoned competitors, busy professionals, midlife-mavens, parents, and active adults who simply want to live healthier, stronger, more fulfilling lives. My coaching philosophy has always extended far beyond finish lines. While I love helping people reach performance goals, I’m even more passionate about helping them build confidence, resilience, healthy habits, and a mindset that carries into every area of life.

I’m also passionate about healthy aging and longevity, educating others on the importance of strength training, nutrition, recovery, and sustainable lifestyle habits that allow people to continue doing what they love for decades to come. My goal is to help people not just live longer—but live better.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built over the years. Whether it’s with athletes I’ve coached for decades, organizations I’ve spoken for, or families I’ve gotten to know through the sport, I value people above performance. Watching someone achieve something they once believed was impossible is every bit as rewarding to me as any finish line I ever crossed.

If there’s one thing that sets me apart, it’s that I genuinely meet people where they are. I know what it’s like to experience incredible success, heartbreaking disappointment, injuries, self-doubt, and major life transitions. Those experiences have given me empathy and perspective that can’t be taught from a textbook. I coach the whole person—not just the athlete.

After more than 25 years in endurance sports, my greatest accomplishment isn’t the races I’ve won. It’s using those experiences to help others discover confidence, purpose, and joy in their own journeys. At the end of the day, that’s the legacy I hope to leave.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best part of this chapter of my life is that there are so many ways to connect.

I work one-on-one with athletes and active individuals through personalized coaching, helping everyone from beginners to experienced competitors pursue goals that are meaningful to them. Whether someone is training for their first 5K, an IRONMAN, or simply wants to become stronger, healthier, and more confident, I love meeting people where they are and helping them discover what’s possible.

I also enjoy speaking at conferences, leadership events, schools, and organizations about resilience, leadership, mindset, healthy aging, and the lessons endurance sports teach us about life. Sharing those experiences and helping others apply them to their own personal and professional journeys is incredibly rewarding.

Beyond coaching and speaking, I love collaborating with brands and companies whose values align with mine—promoting health, wellness, longevity, community, and living with purpose. Authentic relationships have always been more important to me than simply promoting a product.

The easiest way to connect is through my website (www.meredithkessler.com) where people can learn about coaching opportunities, speaking engagements, and other ways we can work together. I also enjoy connecting with people on social media and sharing training tips, family life, healthy living, and encouragement along the way. It is important to me to be approachable — anyone can email me at mbk@meredithkessler.com or via Instagram at @mbkessler. I make time for people who make time for me!

If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my journey, it’s this: every person is made for more than they realize. If I can help someone believe that about themselves, then I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do.
