Check Out Tiraj Lucas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiraj Lucas.

Hi Tiraj, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
FROM TIRZ was born from my belief that clothing can do more than make a statement—it can tell a story, challenge stereotypes, and create community. Growing up, I saw how streetwear was often unfairly associated with crime or negative perceptions, especially in Black and Brown communities. I wanted to build a brand that reclaimed that narrative and proved that streetwear could represent ambition, creativity, and purpose.

I launched FROM TIRZ with limited resources but a clear vision: to create meaningful pieces inspired by resilience and personal growth. Every collection is rooted in the idea that our struggles don’t define us—they shape us. That message has resonated with people far beyond clothing.

Since starting the brand, I’ve had the opportunity to showcase FROM TIRZ at fashion shows, collaborate with local organizations, appear in the media, and continue growing a community that believes in fashion with purpose. More importantly, we’ve used the brand to give back through charitable initiatives and support causes that matter to us.

Today, FROM TIRZ is more than a clothing label—it’s a movement centered on resilience, identity, and hope. As we continue to grow, my mission remains the same: to inspire people to wear their story proudly and remind them that no matter where they come from, they have the power to rise.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has actually been smoother than I imagined. Taking an idea from my mind and turning it into something people can physically wear was intimidating at first, but through the support of my friends, family, community, and God, it’s all been possible.

I believe that when you’re called to do something meaningful, it will never be easy. There will always be challenges and moments of uncertainty, but those obstacles make the journey even more rewarding. The perseverance it takes to keep creating is what makes building FROM TIRZ so special, and every step has reinforced why I started in the first place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lawyer by practice, and I work within the homeless services coalition in Columbus, Ohio as a legal professional. My career not only helps fund FROM TIRZ, but also allows me to give back to my community by advocating for individuals who often don’t have the resources or voice to advocate for themselves.

I’ve realized that one of my greatest gifts is creating, but my deeper purpose is helping people feel seen, valued, and empowered—both externally and internally. I fulfill that purpose in different ways: through my work serving vulnerable communities, through FROM TIRZ by creating clothing that empowers people and challenges the narratives often placed on minority communities, and through storytelling.

Beyond fashion, I’m also a spoken word poet and the author of two published books. Whether it’s through law, poetry, or clothing, my mission remains the same: to inspire hope, build confidence, and remind people that their story has value.

What I’m most proud of is creating a brand that stands for something greater than fashion. FROM TIRZ is about rewriting narratives, fostering community, and proving that clothing can be a vehicle for empowerment and change. I believe what sets me apart is that service is at the center of everything I do. Every role I take on—whether as a lawyer, author, poet, or designer—is rooted in the same goal: helping people rise.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to trust the vision that was placed inside of you. When you are creating something from tears, there will be moments where you question yourself, compare your journey to others, or wonder if the work you’re putting in is worth it. I’ve learned that the process is just as important as the destination.

One thing I wish I knew when I started was that everything does not have to be perfect before you begin. Sometimes we wait for the perfect timing, the perfect resources, or the perfect opportunity, but growth comes from taking the first step and learning along the way.

Stay consistent, stay humble, and stay connected to your purpose. The things that make your journey difficult are often the same things that make your story unique. Build relationships, listen to your community, and never lose sight of why you started.

Most importantly, don’t be afraid to create something that has never existed before. The world needs your perspective, your creativity, and your voice.
