Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bacha.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I like to say my story began with a healthy dose of curiosity, a lot of flour, and a firm belief that life is simply too sweet for mediocre treats. What started as a passionate obsession in my kitchen has bloomed into Bacha Cookies Bakery in Austintown.
The transition from a home-based dream to where we are today required mastering the delicate science of baking while keeping our sense of wonder completely intact. Today, we operate as a specialized, custom-order bakery, allowing me to dedicate meticulous artistic attention to every single batch—whether it’s a detailed set of custom-decorated sugar cookies for life’s big milestones, or our gourmet cake pops and rice crispy treats.
Because we operate on a bespoke, custom-only basis, we love to mix things up by opening our doors for occasional, highly anticipated retail days during holiday weekends. It turns the bakery into a festive, high-energy pop-up where the community can drop in for our signature handcrafted drop cookies—like our coffee cake or strawberry crunch treats. We’ve grown by staying fiercely committed to quality, and we are so incredibly grateful to bake for a community that treats our holiday retail days like a true celebration.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to a perfect rise is rarely flat! In the baking world, as in business, you quickly learn that temperature, humidity, and life are entirely unpredictable. We have certainly navigated our fair share of metaphorical collapsed soufflés.
Operating as a custom-order bakery presents its own unique set of logistical puzzles. Custom sugar cookies, for example, are highly scientific and incredibly time-sensitive—from balancing the perfect dough consistency so they hold their shape, to the patience required for intricate hand-painted detailing and edible marker work. There is no ‘undo’ button when you are designing edible art, which makes the pressure to deliver perfection for someone’s wedding or second birthday incredibly real.
Furthermore, transitioning into a brick-and-mortar space while keeping our model exclusive to custom orders and festive, high-volume holiday pop-ups has been a massive exercise in time management and supply chain coordination. Sourcing the finest ingredients and managing the sheer physical endurance of 18-hour prep stretches before a holiday retail weekend is no small feat.
But we’ve always treated our challenges like a complex recipe: if something doesn’t turn out quite right, you don’t throw away the kitchen; you analyze the variables, adjust the temperature, and try again with a bit more patience. Every single hurdle has ultimately made our foundation stronger, our technique sharper, and our triumphs much sweeter.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Bacha Cookies Bakery, we are in the business of baking joy. We specialize in handcrafted drop cookies—think classic, comforting favorites elevated to perfection, alongside innovative flavors like coffee cake and strawberry crunch—as well as custom-decorated sugar cookies, gourmet rice crispy treats, and cake pops. We are best known for our vibrant, meticulously detailed custom sugar cookies and our high-energy holiday weekend pop-ups, which have fast become a community tradition.
What I am most proud of is the trust our clients place in us, especially when we get to grow alongside their families. It is such an incredible honor to design cookies for a client’s bridal shower, then their wedding, and soon after, welcome them back to bake for their baby shower, their children’s first birthdays, and every major milestone in between. When someone chooses us for the big moments in their lives, they aren’t just buying dessert; they are asking us to help write the visual and edible memory of their family’s story.
What truly sets us apart is our philosophy that baking is the perfect intersection of rigorous science and whimsical art. While we take the technical craft seriously—obsessing over dough consistency, texture, and flavor profiles—we treat every single treat like a tiny piece of edible theater. Because we operate primarily on a custom-order basis, we don’t mass-produce. Every order gets absolute, undivided artistic attention. We aren’t just a bakery; we are a boutique experience designed to make life’s special moments taste a little more magical.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I am entirely convinced it takes an ecosystem of extraordinary people to raise a bakery. Nobody builds a business alone, and I have been incredibly fortunate to have a stellar support system in my corner.
First and foremost is my family. Behind every baker pulling an 18-hour prep shift before a holiday retail weekend is a team keeping the wheels turning. My husband, Chris, and our daughter, Avery, are my absolute rocks. Chris keeps the coffee brewing, handles the inevitable mountain of dishes, acts as chief taste-tester, and reminds me to breathe when the flour is flying. Having their love, patience, and humor behind the scenes of all this sweet chaos is what makes it all possible.
I also owe an immense debt of gratitude to my parents. When we are preparing for our massive holiday pop-ups, they are right there in the trenches with me—patiently labeling and bagging thousands of cookies to ensure everything looks pristine. It is meticulous, hands-on work, and their willingness to jump in and help is a testament to their endless support.
Then, there is our phenomenal community of clients. In a small business, your clients truly become your advocates and teammates. The families who trust us with their most cherished celebrations and show up to support our holiday weekend pop-ups are the heartbeat of Bacha Cookies Bakery. Their enthusiasm is the fuel that keeps our ovens hot.
A bakery is, at its core, a business of connection. I am endlessly grateful for this circle of supporters who hold up the ladder so I can reach for the stars—and the very top shelf of the pantry.
