Hidden Gems: Meet Dr Jesse Sanders of Redefined Behavioral Health & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Jesse Sanders.

Hi Dr Jesse, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

My story is rooted in faith, purpose, healing, and transformation.

I started with a desire to help people have the kinds of conversations that can truly change the direction of their lives. Over time, that calling became bigger than just counseling or speaking , it became a movement. I realized that many individuals and families were not only dealing with mental health challenges, but also barriers connected to trauma, poverty, systems, employment, family instability, addiction, and lack of access to the right support.

That is what led me to create Redefined. The foundation of our work is captured in our statement: “Having Relevant Conversations to Redefine Lives Radically.” For me, that means meeting people where they are, helping them see beyond what they have been through, and creating pathways for healing, growth, and empowerment.

My journey has included work in mental health, Christian counseling, behavioral health, community programming, workforce development, youth services, family support, and organizational leadership. Each part of that journey taught me that people do not need judgment, they need access, structure, accountability, compassion, and someone willing to walk with them while they rebuild.

Today, Redefined Behavioral Health & Wellness is continuing to grow into an ecosystem that supports individuals, families, youth, veterans, schools, and communities through counseling, behavioral health services, peer support, workforce readiness, group programming, and community partnerships. My goal has never been to just build a business. My goal has been to build something that helps people become whole, stable, and equipped to live differently.

I got to where I am today through faith, perseverance, education, lived experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to serving people who are often overlooked. Every step of the journey has reminded me that healing is possible, lives can be redefined, and purpose can be restored.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. Like many purpose-driven journeys, building Redefined has come with both blessings and challenges.

One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to build something meaningful while also navigating the realities of systems, funding, staffing, compliance, credentialing, and access to care. In behavioral health, the need is great, but the resources and processes are not always simple. There have been moments where we had the vision, the heart, and the people to serve, but still had to work through administrative barriers, payer requirements, documentation standards, and the challenges of creating sustainable programs.

Another challenge has been carrying the weight of leadership while staying true to the mission. When you are building something that serves vulnerable individuals, youth, families, and communities, every decision matters. I have had to learn how to balance compassion with structure, faith with strategy, and vision with accountability.

There have also been personal challenges along the way, moments of doubt, exhaustion, and having to keep going even when the path was unclear. But those obstacles helped shape the foundation of Redefined. They taught me resilience, patience, humility, and the importance of building the right team.

The struggles have not stopped the work; they have refined it. Every challenge has helped me become more intentional about creating systems that are not only compassionate, but also sustainable, ethical, and impactful. The road has not been easy, but it has been purposeful, and I believe every obstacle has helped prepare us for the people and communities we are called to serve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Redefined Behavioral Health & Wellness?
Redefined was created from the belief that lives can be transformed through healing, accountability, support, and relevant conversations that meet people where they are.

Our brand statement is, “Having Relevant Conversations to Redefine Lives Radically.” That is more than a slogan for us, it is the foundation of how we serve. We believe that people do not heal through judgment, shame, or being reduced to their diagnosis or circumstances. People heal when they are seen, heard, supported, challenged, and given access to tools that help them grow.

Redefined Behavioral Health & Wellness provides mental and behavioral health services, counseling, group support, peer support, community-based services, youth and family programming, workforce readiness, and wellness-centered initiatives. We serve individuals, families, youth, adults, veterans, and communities who are navigating trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, substance use challenges, life transitions, family concerns, and barriers connected to stability and opportunity.

What sets Redefined apart is that we are building more than a traditional behavioral health practice. We are building an ecosystem. Our work connects mental health, behavioral health, workforce readiness, family support, community engagement, and purpose development. We understand that healing is not one-dimensional. A person may need counseling, but they may also need employment support, life skills, peer encouragement, family restoration, education, transportation, or simply a safe place to be understood.

We specialize in creating spaces where people can have honest, meaningful conversations that lead to real change. Our approach is compassionate, culturally aware, faith-informed when appropriate, trauma-informed, and rooted in dignity. We focus on helping people redefine how they see themselves, their story, their future, and their ability to overcome.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that Redefined represents hope, healing, growth, and empowerment. The name itself speaks to our mission. We want people to know that their past does not have to define them, their struggles do not have to limit them, and their current circumstances do not have to be the end of their story.

I want readers to know that Redefined is a movement built to serve people holistically. Whether through therapy, groups, youth programming, workforce initiatives, peer support, school partnerships, or community-based services, our goal is to help people become healthier, stronger, more stable, and more equipped to live with purpose.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is that purpose requires both faith and structure.

It is not enough to have a vision or a heart to help people. You also have to build the systems, discipline, partnerships, accountability, and consistency needed to sustain the work. In the beginning, I believed deeply in the mission, but I had to learn that impact requires more than passion. It requires organization, patience, compliance, leadership, and the willingness to keep growing.

I have also learned that healing is not always instant, and progress does not always look the same for everyone. Some people need support, some need accountability, some need resources, and some simply need someone to believe that they are more than what they have been through. That lesson has shaped how I serve and how Redefined continues to grow.

Another major lesson is that you cannot do meaningful work alone. Building the right team, creating healthy partnerships, and learning when to ask for help are essential. The mission may begin with one person’s vision, but it grows through collaboration.

Overall, I have learned that every obstacle can become instruction. The challenges taught me how to lead better, listen deeper, build wiser, and stay committed to the bigger purpose. My journey has shown me that when you remain faithful to the assignment and willing to evolve, what starts as a vision can become a movement.
