Daily Inspiration: Meet Lindsey Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Harris.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in high school, attending cosmetology classes half day at Choffin Career & Technical Center. At the time, I never imagined I would eventually specialize exclusively in makeup. Cosmetology school focused primarily on hair, with only a few days dedicated to makeup, but those few days sparked something in me.

After high school, I went to college, but I continued exploring my passion for makeup. When I returned home, I landed a job at Dillard’s in the cosmetics department at the Fashion Fair counter. That experience changed everything. I learned so much about color theory, different skin tones, and product knowledge while also assisting at counters like Dior, Estée Lauder, and Lancôme.

When Dillard’s closed, I decided to take a leap of faith and start doing makeup from home. That was in 2014, the same year I became a mother. I was working out of my mom’s living room from morning until night, charging about $30 a face. Looking back, those were some of the best memories because I was building something from the ground up.

Social media was still in its early days, especially in a smaller city like Youngstown, Ohio, so word spread quickly. Through consistent promotion, referrals, and hard work, I became a household name in my community. Over the years, I’ve worked on countless weddings, photoshoots, special events, and in several salon environments before moving into my own private suite.

Today, I’m the owner of Touched by Linds and my own salon suites, where not only do I continue serving clients, but I also provide spaces for other beauty professionals to grow their own businesses. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how a passion that started in a high school cosmetology program has evolved into a career that’s allowed me to build a brand, create opportunities for others, and make women feel confident every single day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every obstacle has shaped me into the artist and business owner I am today. I started my business in 2014 from my mom’s living room with my newborn daughter by my side. As a single mother, balancing motherhood while building a business wasn’t easy, and there were many moments where I questioned if I could keep going.

Like many entrepreneurs, I faced financial challenges, periods of self-doubt, burnout, and the reality of learning every aspect of running a business on my own. Even today, I continue to work a part-time job while running my business and serving my clients. Balancing a career, entrepreneurship, and motherhood is a constant challenge, but it’s one I’ve learned to embrace. In fact, my current manager recently told me that I make it all look easy, which reminded me just how much I’ve grown over the years.

Through it all, I refused to give up. Every challenge strengthened my work ethic, built my resilience, and reminded me why I started. I’ve learned that success isn’t about having a perfect journey. It’s about continuing to show up, even on the hard days. Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle because each one helped shape not only my business, but the woman I’ve become.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional makeup artist and the owner of TouchedbyLinds Makeup Artistry, where I specialize in timeless, long wearing makeup that enhances each client’s natural beauty while still allowing them to feel like themselves. While I am based in Youngstown, Ohio, my work has taken me to multiple states, and I have had the privilege of working with clients from across the country and even different parts of the world. Whether they’re traveling into the area or booking me for destination events, I never take for granted that they choose to sit in my chair.

What I’m most proud of is building my business from the ground up. I started doing makeup in my mother’s living room in 2014 with nothing more than my passion, determination, and a dream. Through consistency, word of mouth, and a genuine love for what I do, I built a loyal clientele that continues to grow year after year.

One of the greatest blessings of my career has been the opportunity to work with women of all ethnicities, skin tones, cultures, and backgrounds. Every face tells a different story, and I love creating looks that celebrate each person’s individuality. I believe my experience working with such a diverse clientele has strengthened my artistry and allowed me to connect with people on a much deeper level.

What truly sets me apart is the experience I provide. I want every client to leave my chair feeling seen, beautiful, and confident. Makeup is more than just applying products to me. It’s about creating a moment where someone can look in the mirror and see the very best version of themselves. That feeling is what continues to inspire me every single day.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to support me is simply by trusting me with your special moments and continuing to share my work with others. Word of mouth has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to grow, and I’m incredibly grateful for every referral, review, and social media share.

If you’re looking to work with me, I provide professional makeup services for weddings, special events, photoshoots, branding sessions, and other milestone occasions. I also welcome opportunities to collaborate with photographers, hairstylists, content creators, designers, event planners, and fellow beauty professionals who share a passion for creating beautiful experiences.

You can also support my journey by following along on social media, engaging with my content, and celebrating the wins, both big and small. Every booking, recommendation, and kind word has helped turn a dream I started in high school into the career I have today, and I never take that support for granted.
