Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Kayse.
Hi Chelsea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I never intentionally sought out work in farmers markets or non-profits. I was 10 months post-partum and desperately looking to reconnect with community. I was finishing my undergrad at the time, as I was pivoting away from account management work. I am so incredibly grateful that the trajectory of my life up to that point led me to my role managing the Worthington Farmers Market. It has been the most gratifying work experience I’ve ever had, and has helped me grow as both a professional and an individual.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! Understanding the logistics of different growers and producers at the market, alongside weather and market location issues has been quite the eye-opening and challenging experience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I mentioned previously, I was finishing up my undergrad program in 2023 after deciding to pivot from my sales/account management background. Coming into a small non-profit management role after years of working in sales was interesting, to say the least. For 13+ years my goal had been to make large companies money and to hit metrics within strict guidelines, where now I could utilize my creativity and skillset to help grow small businesses and support my local economy. It’s really gratifying to see the success of the businesses and people around me firsthand!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Working in the city I live in definitely makes me all the more grateful for being in Worthington. The folks here care so much about the city, and they are fiercely proud of it! We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of so many fantastic parks and restaurants, and there is always something fun going on! We are currently lacking in housing options in Worthington, however, there are several endeavors to hopefully bring more affordable living options to our city.
