Check Out Braisha Owens- Mount’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Braisha Owens- Mount.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and creativity has always been the foundation of who I am. I spent my childhood immersed in the arts, attending performing arts schools from middle school through high school, where I developed a strong background in visual art. Later, I attended Kent State University to study Fashion Merchandising, and that’s where I realized fashion wasn’t separate from my artistic journey—it was simply another canvas. Fashion became the way I translated everything I had learned as a visual artist into something people could wear.

My path hasn’t been a straight line. I spent a short time living in Chicago before moving to Columbus, Ohio, where I lived for nearly a decade. Those years challenged me creatively and personally, and eventually God led me back home to Akron. Returning home gave me a renewed sense of purpose—not just as a designer, but as an artist creating work that tells stories and helps people express who they are.

As for how I got where I am today, I joke that it’s because I was “delusional.” I once heard Busta Rhymes say that sometimes you have to be delusional until it works, and that really resonated with me. The people who accomplish extraordinary things often believe in something long before anyone else can see it. I’ve always believed I was called to do this, even during seasons when there wasn’t much evidence to support it.

But more than delusion, it’s been faith. My journey has been fueled by the confidence that God placed this purpose in me, and because of that, quitting has never been an option. I don’t believe I’m at the pinnacle of my career yet—I believe I’m still building—but every opportunity I’ve received has come from continuing to show up, create, and trust the vision God gave me.

People often say, “Get rich or die trying.” For me, it’s different. My mindset is, “Walk in purpose or die trying.” This has never just been about building a fashion brand. It’s about fulfilling the assignment God placed on my life. It’s not a hustle—it’s a holy hustle.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road—not even close.

Entrepreneurship is challenging on its own, but navigating it while being a wife and a stay-at-home mom has added new layers to the journey. There have been so many opportunities I’ve wanted to pursue—traveling to new cities, participating in pop-up shops, investing in bigger ideas—but sometimes the finances simply weren’t there. That can be frustrating when your vision is bigger than your current resources.

At the same time, I’ve been incredibly blessed with an amazing support system. My husband and my parents have believed in me and encouraged me every step of the way. But even with support, there are moments when the vision God has placed in your heart is difficult for others to fully see. They love you, they cheer you on, but they can’t always carry the weight of a calling that wasn’t given to them. That’s something every entrepreneur has to learn.

One thing I’ve come to understand is that purpose isn’t determined by perfect circumstances. I remember hearing Sarah Jakes Roberts say that unfavorable conditions don’t mean something isn’t possible—they simply mean you have to keep moving anyway. That stayed with me.

My faith has taught me that joy and suffering can exist at the same time. Just because a season is difficult doesn’t mean it’s empty of purpose. Some of my hardest moments have also been the ones that shaped my character, strengthened my discipline, and deepened my dependence on God.

So yes, it’s been hard. There have been setbacks, disappointments, and moments of uncertainty. But every challenge has reminded me why I started in the first place. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has absolutely been purposeful. And I wouldn’t trade the lessons it’s taught me for an easier path.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the founder and Creative Director of Kissed by BO, a Black-owned luxury fashion brand that transforms denim into wearable art. I’m also a designer and stylist, so my work goes beyond creating individual garments—I create complete artistic experiences through curated looks, storytelling, and craftsmanship.

For years, people have primarily known me for my denim. It’s the material I’ve continually returned to because I see it as more than fabric—I see it as a canvas. Today, that vision has evolved into what I call wearable art. Every piece is designed to be something you don’t simply wear; you experience it. I want people to feel like they’re putting on a walking artifact, a piece of art that carries emotion, memory, and meaning.

The piece I’m most proud of is a patchwork denim jacket with exaggerated high shoulders that’s currently housed in a stylist showroom in Los Angeles. It wasn’t the celebrity placement that made it special—it was what the piece revealed about me as an artist. I created that jacket during one of the most stressful seasons of my life, and I’d never attempted anything like it before. When I finished it, I realized I was capable of creating far beyond what I had imagined. That jacket became proof that my creativity wasn’t limited by my circumstances.

What truly sets my work apart is my faith. My collections aren’t just inspired by aesthetics—they’re rooted in purpose. Every collection tells a story about what God is teaching me in a particular season of my life.

My current collection, *Field Notes*, is about documenting the journey of purpose—what I’m carrying, what I’m learning, and how God is shaping me while I’m “in the field.” It’s a reminder that every challenge, every lesson, and every season leaves something behind.

My upcoming collection continues that story by exploring the imagery of the Armor of God from Ephesians. I’m fascinated by the idea that clothing can represent spiritual strength—the shield of faith, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation. Fashion has always been a form of expression, and I want my work to remind people that what we wear can also symbolize what we carry spiritually.

Ultimately, my goal has never been to simply make beautiful clothes. I want my art to create conversations about identity, purpose, and faith. If someone walks away inspired—not just by the craftsmanship but by the deeper story behind it—then I’ve done what I believe God has called me to do. My platform isn’t just for fashion; it’s an opportunity to point people toward hope, purpose, and ultimately, toward Him.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to collaborating, but I believe the best partnerships are built on alignment. As I’ve grown both personally and professionally, I’ve learned that every opportunity isn’t necessarily the right opportunity. Discernment is a big part of how I make decisions, so I look for collaborations that align with my values, my artistry, and the vision God has given me for my brand.

Whether it’s creative direction, styling, fashion partnerships, speaking engagements, or artistic collaborations, I’m always excited to connect with people and organizations that share a heart for creativity, authenticity, and meaningful storytelling.

The best way to support my work is simply to follow the journey. You can find me on social media at **@kissedbybo**, explore my collections at **KissedByBoBoutique.com**, or learn more about my creative work through **HouseOfBo.com**. Every purchase, share, conversation, and word of encouragement helps me continue creating wearable art with purpose, and I’m grateful for every person who chooses to be part of that journey.
