Meet Gillian DiPofi of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gillian DiPofi.

Hi Gillian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a twenty-nine year old artist from Geneva on the Lake, Ohio. I have always been interested in art and was very much encouraged by friends and family to pursue it. I graduated from Lake Erie College in May 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Visual Arts. While I enjoy ceramics, I feel my medium of choice is watercolor. I have experience teaching art classes, but I currently work in the Children’s Department of a local library.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is always hard to get started in the art business and make connections. It can be very frustrating. Luckily for me, over the course of the last three years, I have had a wonderful mentor who has helped me discover my style niche.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I dabble in many different art forms, but the one I always find myself returning to is watercolor. I moved to Fairport Harbor in 2021. While it was similar to where I grew up, it did not have the same feeling. I started painting local businesses and landmarks as a way to feel closer to home and it has taken off from there. I feel very lucky to be part of such wonderful small, knit communities who share the same feelings of nostalgia for the area as I do.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have to thank my wonderful family for pushing me to continue creating art after all these years. I also would art to thank my husband who is constantly encouraging me to be creative. I also would like to thank Judy Cambell at Bridge Street artworks. She is constantly helping me with ideas.
