Today we’d like to introduce you to Tika Monet.
Hi Tika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2015 and have been specializing in nails since 2017. Early in my career, I worked in traditional salons, where I gained valuable experience and developed a passion for helping people feel confident through nail care. Over time, I realized I wanted to create a different kind of experience. One that focused on quality over quantity and allowed every client to feel relaxed, heard, and genuinely cared for.
That vision led me to open my own private nail studio, Tipped By Tika, in Grove City, Ohio. I specialize in natural nail care, builder gel manicures, Gel-X extensions, dip powder, and pedicures. I love creating a space where clients can step away from the stress of everyday life and enjoy the vibe of a calm, private environment.
Like many small business owners, my journey hasn’t always been easy. Building a business while raising two young daughters has required determination, flexibility, and a lot of faith. Every challenge has strengthened my commitment to creating something meaningful, not only for my family, but also for the clients who trust me with their self care. Today, I’m proud to continue growing my business and building lasting relationships with the amazing people who sit in my chair.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced my share of challenges. Starting over and building my own clientele from the ground up was one of the biggest hurdles. There were times when I questioned myself, worried about slow weeks, and wondered if I was making the right decision.
On top of growing a business, I’ve also been balancing motherhood with two young daughters. Learning how to manage my time, care for my family, and still show up fully for my clients has been one of the greatest challenges.
Opening a private studio came with its own learning curve as well. Beyond doing nails, I had to become a marketer, bookkeeper, customer service representative, and business owner all at once.
As you know, we’re big fans of Tipped By Tika. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tipped By Tika is my little happy place, and I wanted it to feel the same way for everyone who walks through the door. I have a private nail studio in Grove City where I specialize in builder gel manicures, Gel-X extensions, dip powder, natural nail care, and pedicures. My goal is to give my clients beautiful nails while also helping them keep their natural nails healthy.
One of the biggest things that sets me apart is that I don’t believe getting your nails done should feel rushed or stressful. In a private studio, it’s just you and me. No loud salon, no waiting around, and no feeling like you’re being pushed through an assembly line. I love getting to know my clients, hearing about their lives, celebrating their wins, and sometimes just letting them relax in peace if that’s what they need that day.
What I’m most proud of is the atmosphere I’ve created. I wanted a space where anyone could come in, take a break from life for a little while, and leave feeling refreshed and confident. Seeing clients smile when they look at their nails, or hearing them tell me they finally found someone they trust with their nail health means everything to me.
I want people to know that every appointment supports me as a black owned small business. I also make it a priority to give every client tips on how to maintain their nails between appointments. I sell cuticle oil and homemade body scrub to help keep their nails and skin healthy at home. I’m also working on growing my social media presence on Instagram and TikTok, @Tipped.By.Tika, and I’m excited to keep growing, meeting new people, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome and cared for.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My booking app gloss genius has helped. Social media platforms like Facebook Instagram and TikTok has helped me gain some clientele and find
inspo pics. Seeing other nail techs on TikTok, giving inspirational advice on how to run a nail studio and balance home and work life has also been a really big help
