Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Mathot.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness was founded with a simple vision: to create a place where people could receive exceptional, individualized care without the limitations often found in traditional healthcare. After years of working in a variety of clinical settings, I saw a need for a practice that focused on treating the whole person—not just the diagnosis—and gave patients direct access to the care they needed when they needed it.
We started Compass Physical Therapy as a cash-based, direct access practice, allowing patients to begin physical therapy without requiring a physician referral. This model gives us the freedom to spend more one-on-one time with each individual, develop personalized treatment plans, and focus on achieving meaningful, lasting outcomes rather than simply checking boxes.
As we’ve grown, so has our vision. Today, Compass has evolved into Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness, bringing together rehabilitation, recovery, fitness, and performance under one roof. In addition to traditional physical therapy, we’ve expanded our services to include Homeostatic NeuroTrigger Point Dry Needling, StemWave therapy for pain management and tissue healing, specialized recovery services such as cupping, myofascial release, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, and manual therapy, as well as fitness programming and sports performance training.
Everything we’ve added has been intentional. Our goal has always been to bridge the gap between healthcare and wellness so our patients don’t just recover from injury—they continue to build strength, improve performance, and maintain long-term health. Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing chronic pain, returning to athletics, or simply wanting to live a healthier life, Compass provides a continuum of care that supports them every step of the way.
Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, but we’re just getting started. Our mission remains the same as it was on day one: to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that empowers people to move better, feel better, and live life to its fullest.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness: Redefining Rehabilitation, Recovery, and Performance
Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness was founded on the belief that healthcare should be personal, accessible, and focused on helping people achieve their highest level of function—not simply recover from injury. From the very beginning, our mission has been to create an environment where every individual receives one-on-one, evidence-based care designed specifically for their goals, whether that’s returning to work, competing in sports, managing chronic pain, or simply living life without limitations.
As an independently owned, locally operated practice, Compass has grown into much more than a traditional physical therapy clinic. We’ve become a comprehensive health, wellness, and performance destination, bringing together rehabilitation, regenerative technologies, recovery services, fitness, and athletic development under one roof. Our philosophy is simple: patients deserve continuity of care from the moment pain begins until they’re performing at their absolute best.
One of the things that sets Compass apart is our commitment to direct access physical therapy, allowing patients to receive care without waiting weeks for physician referrals. This not only helps people begin treatment sooner but often reduces healthcare costs while improving outcomes. Every patient receives individualized attention with treatment plans tailored to their specific needs rather than standardized protocols or high-volume care.
Compass has become known throughout the community for treating complex orthopedic conditions, chronic pain, neurological disorders, post-operative rehabilitation, balance and fall prevention, sports injuries, and movement dysfunction. We have developed particular expertise in helping patients who have “tried everything” and are looking for a different approach to recovery. Whether someone is recovering from a stroke, preparing for surgery, returning to golf, recovering from a rotator cuff repair, or managing long-standing back or neck pain, our focus is finding solutions that restore movement and improve quality of life.
Our practice has also become recognized for integrating innovative technologies with hands-on clinical expertise. Compass offers Homeostatic NeuroTrigger Point Dry Needling to address pain and neuromuscular dysfunction, StemWave Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) to stimulate the body’s natural healing response for acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and specialized recovery services including manual therapy, myofascial release, cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, and individualized mobility programs. These services are combined strategically to create comprehensive plans of care designed around each patient’s goals.
Beyond rehabilitation, Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness has expanded into fitness and human performance because we believe healthcare shouldn’t stop when therapy ends. Our fitness division provides professionally designed strength and conditioning programs for adults of all ages, specialized training for endurance athletes and functional fitness competitors, sports performance programming for youth athletes, and wellness services that help people stay active long after they’ve recovered from injury. By integrating rehabilitation and fitness, we help bridge the gap between medical care and lifelong health.
Education and community involvement are also central to who we are. Compass works to educate patients, physicians, coaches, athletic organizations, and the community about injury prevention, pain management, movement optimization, and evidence-based treatment options. We believe informed patients make better healthcare decisions, and we’re passionate about making advanced rehabilitation services accessible close to home.
Since opening our doors, Compass has continued to expand both its services and its impact within the community. Our reputation has grown through word-of-mouth referrals, trusted relationships with physicians and local organizations, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We’ve built a brand centered on integrity, innovation, compassion, and clinical excellence—one where patients know they’ll receive honest recommendations, individualized treatment, and the time necessary to achieve meaningful results.
What truly distinguishes Compass is our philosophy of treating people—not diagnoses. We recognize that every patient has a unique story, different goals, and different definitions of success. Rather than focusing solely on symptom relief, we identify the underlying causes of movement dysfunction and develop personalized strategies that help patients recover, perform, and thrive.
As we continue to grow, our vision remains clear: to become the region’s trusted destination for rehabilitation, recovery, wellness, and performance by combining exceptional clinical care with innovative treatment technologies and a patient-first approach. At Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness, our goal isn’t simply to help people heal, it’s to help them move better, live stronger, and confidently pursue the activities they love for years to come.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was growing up in the gym as a competitive gymnast. Gymnastics taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of hard work at a young age. It also introduced me to the realities of injuries, recovery, and the importance of having people around you who know how to help athletes return stronger than before.
I became fascinated not only with training and performance but also with the recovery process. Every setback became an opportunity to learn more about how the body heals and what it takes to regain strength, confidence, and function. I realized that the people who made the biggest impact weren’t just coaches—they were the healthcare professionals who understood movement and helped athletes safely return to doing what they loved.
That passion ultimately led me to pursue physical therapy. Over time, my perspective expanded beyond rehabilitation alone. I recognized that true health isn’t just about treating injuries—it’s about optimizing movement, preventing problems before they occur, improving performance, and helping people live active, healthy lives at every stage.
That philosophy became the foundation for Compass Physical Therapy and Fitness. Today, everything we do—from rehabilitation and neurological recovery to dry needling, StemWave therapy, recovery services, sports performance, and fitness programming—is rooted in the lessons I learned through gymnastics. My goal is to help every patient and athlete experience the same confidence, resilience, and joy in movement that first inspired me as a young gymnast.
