Hi Aklens, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are Kunle and Kemi, the owners and creative partners behind Aklens Photography. Although our professional backgrounds are in Accounting and Finance, we’ve always shared a passion for creativity and storytelling.

Kemi’s love for photography began as a little girl in Nigeria, dreaming of becoming a muse and preserving life’s beautiful moments. After moving to the U.S. and pursuing a career in Finance, that dream evolved into capturing those moments for others. Kunle, born in New York and later settling in Dayton, discovered that while Accounting was his profession, photography was where his heart truly came alive. He became passionate about creating timeless images that people can cherish for generations.

That shared passion inspired us to start Aklens Photography. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a business focused on capturing authentic portraits, meaningful celebrations, and unforgettable milestones.

Today, we’re honored to tell our clients’ stories through our lenses. As we continue to grow, our goal is to build Aklens Photography into a recognized brand known for timeless imagery and genuine storytelling.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, we started Aklens Photography while balancing full-time careers in Accounting and Finance. Building a business during evenings and weekends meant making sacrifices, learning to manage our time, traveling many times, and staying committed even when things felt overwhelming.

Another challenge was building our name in a competitive industry. Gaining clients’ trust, creating a consistent brand, and continually investing in better equipment and education all took patience and persistence.

One thing that has kept us going is our shared vision. Every challenge has pushed us to grow, not just as photographers, but as business owners. Looking back, we’re grateful for the journey because it has shaped Aklens Photography into what it is today, and we’re excited for what’s still to come.

We are the team behind Aklens Photography, specializing in capturing authentic, timeless moments through portrait, lifestyle, and event photography. Our work focuses on telling genuine stories, whether it’s a milestone celebration, a personal branding session, or everyday moments that deserve to be remembered. We’re known for creating a comfortable, relaxed experience for our clients, allowing their true personalities to shine through in every image.

What we’re most proud of is the trust our clients place in us to document meaningful moments in their lives. Seeing our work become part of their memories, displayed in their homes or shared with loved ones is incredibly rewarding. We also take pride in how far we’ve come, building Aklens Photography from the ground up while balancing full-time careers, and continuing to grow both creatively and professionally.

What sets us apart is our collaborative approach and attention to detail. As a team, we bring different perspectives that enhance our creativity and problem-solving. We’re deeply committed to continuous learning, refining our craft, and delivering a personalized experience that goes beyond just taking photos. We aim to create lasting connections and meaningful visual stories.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes us happiest is knowing that we’ve captured moments our clients will cherish for a lifetime. There’s something incredibly rewarding about freezing a moment in time, whether it’s the excitement of an engagement, the joy of a growing family, or a milestone someone has worked so hard to achieve.

Recently, we photographed a client celebrating their 40th birthday, and one of their requests was for us to create images they could look back on in another 40 years and be glad to see how they looked at 40. That perfectly captures why we do what we do. Photography allows us to preserve moments that become even more meaningful with time.

We also find happiness in creating an experience where people feel comfortable, confident, and truly seen. Seeing our clients’ reactions when they receive their photos reminds us why we started Aklens Photography in the first place. At the end of the day, it’s about more than taking beautiful pictures, it’s about preserving memories and telling stories that will be treasured for generations.
