Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Hutton.
Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Made by Han Designs in 2020. I have always had a passion for art, even from a young age. During the COVID pandemic, I was home from college with more time to focus on artwork again. I began hand-lettering bible verses and encouraging quotes simply for fun. As I spent time creating these pieces, I realized how much those reminders were helping me personally. I wanted to find a way to bring light to others during such a dark and uncertain time. That’s how the idea of a hand-lettering business began. It started with painting signs with scripture and positive reminders. Over the years, the business has continued to grow and evolve. Today, I create a wide variety of items, including keychains, stickers, hand-painted event banners, t-shirts/apparel, tote bags, beaded wristlets, car charms, lanyards, earrings, bracelets, bookmarks, and more. My business has been with me through many seasons of life. I am grateful to continue growing professionally and personally through it all.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As any small business owner would likely attest, it has not always been a smooth road. Learning the ins and outs of the business side is vital at the beginning. Some hurdles included figuring out how not to underprice myself for the time and effort involved, developing effective marketing strategies, and building a consistent customer base. As mentioned, this business has been with me through many stages of life. Balancing it alongside college, a full-time job, wedding planning, graduate school, and life in general has been challenging at times. However, my passion remains—I love creating art for others and seeing the joy each piece brings.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Hand-lettering is at the heart of what I do. My motto is, “Create with passion. Shine your light. Spread His love.” With every item I create, my goal is to shine the light of Christ and share that message with my customers. What started as a love for lettering and design has grown into a creative business where I get to bring meaningful ideas to life through handmade pieces.
I create a wide variety of items, including hand-painted signs, custom event banners, wood and acrylic earrings, apparel, tote bags, keychains, stickers, digital design signs, beaded wristlets, lanyards, and more. Many of my items are available on my website, but the beauty of my business is that each piece is made to order and can be customized. I love working with customers to transform their ideas into something special, whether it’s for a milestone event like a wedding or graduation, or simply something meaningful for everyday life.
What sets my work apart is the personal touch behind every piece. Each design is hand-lettered and thoughtfully created with the customer in mind. I pray over each item I make that it would serve as a consistent blessing and sweet reminder. I’m especially proud of the relationships I’ve built with customers over the years and the opportunity to create pieces that become part of their most meaningful moments. Knowing that something I created can bring joy, encouragement, or inspiration to someone else is what makes this work so rewarding. I am blessed to do this every day.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would not be where I am today without the support of my friends and family. My brother, Cory Hall, has always encouraged me to chase my dreams, just as I’ve watched him chase his. He helped turn this small idea into a reality and helped start my business from day one. My friends and family have been my biggest cheerleaders and are always ready to listen to my ideas or let me practice creating items for them. They believe in me, pray for me, and display never-ending support.
I have to shout out my husband, Andrew, as well, who is my rock and biggest fan. He witnesses the craft room chaos daily, but he is the calm in it all.
I’m also incredibly thankful for my customers. Many of them have supported my business for years, shared my work with others, and trusted me to create pieces for some of their most meaningful moments. Their continued support and excitement for what I create have played a huge role in helping my business grow.
Lastly, I’m grateful for the community of fellow small business owners and creatives who inspire me and remind me that we’re all learning and growing together. Having people who understand the journey and share encouragement along the way makes such a difference.
