Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Hutchison.
Hi Jacqueline, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Jacqueline! I have over 10 years experience as a professional maternity, newborn and baby photographer servicing Columbus and all of Central Ohio. I owned my first camera at the age of 12. That was back in the Kodak and film days. I carried that camera to every event I could and just really enjoyed learning photography. Fast forward to becoming a mother-I quickly learned how fast our children grow and I wanted to freeze that moment in time. I started photographing friends, their families, and then as they say, the rest is history! I’ve been in business for over 12 years and opened my commercial studio January of 2021. My professional studio is where I create all the magic!
A little about me- I am a wife and mother! I’ve been married to my husband for almost 20 years and we’ve been blessed with two beautiful children. Family means everything to me. I’m also very proud to say I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and I’ve worked in Pediatrics for over 20 years. You will see I love working with children! Being a mother has taught me so much, and most importantly how fast our babies grow up and how portraits can freeze a moment in time!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running a photography business can be both incredibly rewarding and undeniably challenging. While the idea of turning a creative passion into a career sounds like a smooth ride, the reality is usually a mix of exciting highs and demanding learning curves.
In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges is building a client base. Photography is a competitive industry, and getting your work noticed takes time, consistency, and a strong online presence. Marketing, networking, and maintaining active social media accounts often become just as important as the photography itself. Many photographers quickly realize they are not just artists—they are also business owners, marketers, editors, and customer service representatives.
Another challenge is the behind-the-scenes workload. For every hour spent shooting, there can be several hours spent editing, communicating with clients, managing bookings, organizing files, and handling finances. Learning to manage time effectively and set clear boundaries is essential to avoid burnout.
In reality, running a photography business is rarely a perfectly smooth ride, but the challenges are part of the journey. With persistence, creativity, and strong business practices, the rewards far outweigh the obstacles.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and baby photography. My work focuses on capturing the beautiful and meaningful moments that come with welcoming a new life into the world. From documenting the glow and anticipation of pregnancy to the tiny details of a newborn and the milestones of a baby’s first year, I love preserving these fleeting stages for families.
I’m known for creating soft, timeless images that highlight the natural connection between parents and their babies. My sessions are calm, patient, and baby-led, ensuring that both parents and little ones feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the experience. I pay close attention to the small details—tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and loving interactions—because those are the moments that families cherish the most.
What I’m most proud of is being trusted to capture such important memories during one of the most special times in a family’s life. Seeing parents’ reactions when they receive their images and knowing those photos will be treasured for years means everything to me.
What sets me apart is my gentle approach and dedication to creating a safe, welcoming environment for both babies and parents. I’m a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with many years of experience with safety and babies. I focus on making each session personal and meaningful, so every family receives images that truly reflect their story and the love surrounding their newest addition.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
An important part of the client experience I offer is the support of my professional hair and makeup artist team-Le Reve Makeup and Hair. They help my clients feel confident, relaxed, and truly pampered before their session begins. Having a dedicated team ensures that every mom looks and feels her best in front of the camera, which naturally shines through in the photos. It also allows my clients to enjoy the experience without the stress of getting ready on their own, making the session feel even more special and memorable.
