Meet Haley Fannin of The Ohio Flower GIrls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Fannin.

Haley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From backyard garden activities with our mom, to our roles in out-of-state family weddings where we earned our nick-name “The Ohio Flower Girls”, to our own weddings, flowers have long been a part of meaningful experiences in our lives. And since Hannah began selling flowers roadside in 2016, flowers have taken on even more significance in our lives as our small farmer-florist business has evolved. Now, we’re thrilled to provide an option for fresh, locally grown flowers that our customers can be proud of as they create their own meaningful experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We didn’t have any prior knowledge on starting our own business or growing flowers on a large commerical scale (which has brought about lots of challenges over the years) but we did see an opportunity to bring together each other’s strengths and partner together to start this business and to continually grow it year after year.

One of our biggest challenges as farmers is being dependent on the weather (which is something that is totally out of our control). We have learned over the years that we can stress about it as much as we want but that doesn’t change anything so we have chosen to be as proactive as possible and if extreme weather hits our crops planning for how are we going to move on after the fact.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Ohio Flower GIrls ?
We are a farmer florist, meaning we grow the majoirty of the flowers on our farm that we then use in our florist work. We specialize in providing locally grown flowers throughout our region through several different outlets. Those include but are not limited to weddings, wholesale, local retail, and bouquet subscriptions to name a few.

We are also known for our U-pick flower field which is located at The Pickwick Place in Bucyrus, OH. This field is open July-September and customers get to walk through our fields and hand pick a bouquet for themselves. People have so many connections to flowers and it is so fun to hear our customers stories while providing a small moment for them to enjoy nature in a flower field.

What are your plans for the future?
We are headed into our 9th growing season and we are looking forward to all that this year has in store. We will be expanding our u-pick flower field and doing some fun events out at the field this year.

We are also planning to continue to grow our wedding offerings. We enjoy working with each of our brides and being a part of their special days.
