Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Dorsey.
Hi Roger, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Good Knights was founded by myself, in response to what I experienced as a child growing up, my mother fled from West Virginia to Elyria Ohio to escape domestic violence we moved in with my aunt at 850 Purdue Ave Elyria, a 1008 square foot 3 bedroom ranch, with a total of 7 children and 2 single moms there were not enough beds so for the first 3 years in Ohio my bed was in a closet on a pile of clothes, having been blessed as a adult my wife and I chose to use my struggle and experience to end child bedlessness in Lorain county and surrounding areas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have the full support of the community from day one, every need that we have had the community has been 100% behind and taken care of it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We started and continue as a volunteer organization, in the 5+ years since our founding we only have 2 part-time employees and over 500 volunteers that have helped us build and deliver over 5000 beds to children in need.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Knowing that my mother loved me enough to escape the domestic violence, and provide us a safe home.
