Check Out Kathryn Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Wilson.

Hi Kathryn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started with my dance studio by taking over from a previous owner. I love dance and the wonderful things it does for the kids. I was a teacher for about 5 years before owning but I have been dancing since I was 3 years old.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The obstacles I have had to go through such as COVID shutdown, costume shipping being late/impossible to order and the normal every day daily tasks that build up. I’ve pushed through all of it and still am loving my craft. I’ve learned you can’t please everyone and just be myself and do what I have been doing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do a lot of things for the business, but my favorite is choreographing. I absolutely love visioning different routines and coming up with their themes.
My favorite routines to choreograph are our Competition Productions. Usually around 30 kids in the routine and 8 minutes of dancing. We have had awesome themes such as Forrest Gump, Pop Stars and the most recent one is Carmen Sandiago. These dances take many hours to put together but are always a crowd favorite

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. That’s the most underrated statement because in a world where you can’t please everyone it’s difficult to not be a people pleaser. Don’t do it, be yourself and put your heart out there no matter how many times people tell you that your wrong
