Daily Inspiration: Meet Torey Worron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Torey Worron.

Hi Torey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Who can ever forget hearing that special music that let you know that the “Ice Cream Man” was in YOUR neighborhood!

In 2017 my husband Jeff and I set out to create a business that could create that same excitement.  Our goal is simple….Bring out the 8 year old in everybody at every event we do!  It’s that simple.

Trikeable Treats was born after both Jeff and I were both were downsized from corporate jobs and needed to reinvent ourselves. Once we learned that our town did not have an ice cream truck, we realized that our opportunity might just be right infront of us. Given the cost of a quality ice cream truck was quite high, we chose to start NE Ohio’s first ice cream bike!

It turned out to be a great decision once we and our community realized that our unique tricycle could function just like an ice cream truck, but because its highly mobile size and design, it is really easy to use both indoors and out.  How cool is that?

As a family that has always enjoyed creating & hosting fun and unique parties both professionally and at home, we knew that Trikeable Treats could make any kid or adult party FUN, UNIQUE &  MEMORABLE! And we were off!

So after 8 years now and almost 500 events, whether we are serving our wide selection of nostalgic ice creams or our famous adult “Poptails”, nothing compares to having The Ice Cream Man ride into your event wearing his nostalgic ice cream parlor outfit while playing that classic ice cream music that we all know and love! Not only do our clients love us, but Jeff and I are having the time of our lives!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge that we had was that once we settled on the idea, it was already late May and we realized that not only was the summer season (great ice cream weather..lol) upon is, but the huge 4th of July parade in our town was rapidly approaching. And, if there was ever going to be a chance for a grand oppening, we had to ride our ice cream bike in that parade!

But that meant taking the buisness from and idea to launch in under 6 weeks. We had no bike, no ice cream distributor, no industrial freezers, no marketing, no website, no logo’s, and no customer contact software… nothing but an idea.

So. we pulled together some of our closest professional friend to not only to run the idea past them, but to see what they thought of trying to pull this off in time for the parade. The response was unanimous. Not only did they think it was it a fantastic idea (nobody was doing it) but we were insane to think that we could miss the parade. “Where are you ever going to get 25,000 people to all see your ice cream business all at once and during a hot summer day” they said!

So the race was on. Needless to say, starting a family business and getting each of the business elements all put together in time for the parade, was easily the biggest challenge both of us have had in our careers!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Given that both Jeff and I had experience in building business plans and creating fun customer and employee incentive plans and parties prior to starting this endeavor, we knew that we had a great chance to make it work. However, what we came to realize very quickly was that we were going to responsible for all aspects of creating and runnning a business. We did not have teams of people like we had when we were in corporate america!

It was going to be just my husband and I. It was time for us to apply everything we had learned since the start of our careers in the cable and telecommunications industry over 25 years ago. Oh my, here we go.

Ultimately we are in the catering world but what we know cause we have put in the 10,000 hours in both leadership and customer service that would be key to our suceess now. We are both know for being innovative and treating every customer and client like they are family. Jeff is a high energy personality and visionary who also has a strong coaching and mentoring personality as well, He is a great leader and quite gregarious. I on the other hand, am very detail oriented and have a back ground of keeping all of the pieces and parts running and productive. The execution you might say! Thats why our clients call me Mrs. Cone. Always supporting the Ice Cream Man.

Since we are now a mom and pop business, both skill sets have successfully come into play over and over again. We have the unique opportunity (and the pleasure) of meeting and working directly with each and every person that we cater to. We handle every aspect of the business from managing the details of each event (me) from the time we meet with them over the phone and then again when the Ice Cream Man arrives to entertain the client and thier guest while passing out our nostalgice ice creams until the final moment whenwe say goodbye after thier event, We are with them the whole time thru.

This combination makes our events very personal! No matter whether its a wedding, a graduation, a birthday party or a corporate event, we make it a family event. We want to treat them with the respect that they deserve. And of course we always bring the FUN, energy and personal touch as well. I mean, who doesn’t love the ice cream man?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes, finding a mentor usually incorporates several essential elements. They are: someone you know and trust, someone who has a unique experience that can relate to the issue you need help with, and someone who is willing to listen and then provide insight that either relates to the issue, or you yourself. Some times both. Dont be afraid to have more than one mentor to ensure that both are covered!
