Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Rogers-Dogbey.
Hi Monique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in a large family, gatherings were more than events—they were an expression of love, filled with vibrant dishes, laughter, and stories. Over time, I discovered my passion for bringing people together and creating moments that feel as beautiful as they are meaningful.
The Small Muse began as a boutique children’s party studio, known for elegant tea parties, themed fashion shows, and spirited sporting celebrations. As our reputation grew, so did our offerings. Today, we produce events of every scale while keeping the same creativity and attention to detail that defined our earliest work.
With over fifteen years of experience, I combine a keen eye for design with a trusted network of vendors to ensure the planning process is smooth, stress-free, and joy-filled. Every event we create is designed to reflect your story—and leave your guests talking long after the last toast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been rewarding, but definitely not without its challenges. One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to run a business, not just create beautiful experiences. I had to teach myself everything from marketing and budgeting to cultivating new vendor relationships and understanding exactly how much product is necessary for different group sizes.
Another challenge has been having the financial resources to innovate and expand in the way I envision. Growth requires investment, and balancing creativity with cash flow has been an ongoing learning curve.
Building a team has also required intention. Hiring and training people who understand the vision, the standard, and the level of detail The Small Muse is known for takes time. Finding the right fit — people who see this work as craft and not just tasks — was an important and sometimes difficult part of scaling.
Each challenge strengthened the business, pushed me to refine my systems, and ultimately helped me grow into a more grounded, confident entrepreneur.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Small Muse Event Service?
The Small Muse Event Service is a creative event company specializing in elegant tablescapes, curated charcuterie experiences, intimate gatherings, and thoughtfully designed celebrations. My work blends artistry, hospitality, and storytelling — each event is approached as a sensory experience, not just décor or food on a table.
I’m known for the intentionality behind every detail. The color palettes, textures, layering, placement, and pacing are all designed to evoke a feeling: warmth, elegance, connection. The Small Muse doesn’t aim for trends — it aims for moments that feel personal, refined, and unforgettable.
What sets the brand apart is the combination of aesthetic clarity and emotional impact. Clients often tell me they didn’t just love how their event looked — they loved how it made people feel. I take pride in creating spaces where guests feel cared for, welcomed, and celebrated.
I’m also proud of the way the brand reflects the Athens and Appalachian region. I intentionally partner with local growers, bakers, makers, and producers. Fresh ingredients, handcrafted elements, and local artistry play a central role in the experience. Supporting and highlighting regional talent is part of my mission.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the consistency and intentional evolution of The Small Muse. The soft palette, the elegant styling, the curated menus, the charcuterie cart — everything reflects a cohesive vision. It feels elevated, calm, and artfully composed.
For your readers, I want them to know that The Small Muse offers more than event planning or styling — it offers a moment of beauty and connection. From intimate dinners to celebrations, corporate gatherings, and curated food experiences, The Small Muse brings a high-touch, creative perspective to each project.
My goal is always the same: create meaningful, memorable experiences that feel both effortless and extraordinary.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m expanding The Small Muse into more immersive seasonal events and curated food and wine experiences. I’m also developing community-centered workshops and creative collaborations that highlight local makers, chefs, and artisans.
This next chapter is about scale — not just in size, but in impact. I want to create experiences that continue to feel intimate and special, while reaching more people who resonate with the spirit of The Small Muse.
