Hi, I am Jess Urban Rickels, the founder, owner & CEO of the Pet & Plant Nanny LLC, License & Insured.
As a women owned small business, my mission is to ensure Happy Pets, Healthy Plants & Relaxed You! I love working with all animals; Dogs, cats, bunnies, rats, guinea pigs, birds, fish, snakes, lizards, etc.
My passion is simply making the world a place worthy of our pets! My goal has always been the same, but it hasn’t been an easy road. I spent time working 2 jobs, to ensure the flexibility and income to support pet sitting where I started my reputation from scratch and therefore providing my service “at cost”. I started on Rover.com in early 2024 to assist in building a reputable name with verified stays and reviews. I currently have over 60, Five Star Reviews and nothing less!
When I hit about 30 reviews and client’s, it was time for the “big dream = big jump” talk with my husband. We decided, it was time for a change. Our discussion lead to us deciding that we needed to take a leap of faith into going 100% into this business idea overnight.
We quit our jobs and began our full and undivided attention to our dream, Pet & Plant Nanny LLC. I am the one and only “The Nanny”, but my husband is “The Man-ny”! His dedication to creating inventory, keeping me on task, and being the best dog dad are the reasons this works. My husband & I’s first Boston Terrier Hagen, may he RIP, lived the royal life of a true gentleman from 8/2014-8/2025. Hagen is the inspiration for this company and the pawsitive changes we plan to bring to our community.
Currently, our home consists of two Boston Terriers, our 1.5 year old boy Chance and our 6 month old girl Bonnie. They are the most important part of the pack. Chance is always my escort to events & has collected over $700 in donations for Humane Ohio in 2025 alone! Bonnie prefers to be the face of the company, in the comfort of her dad’s lap, sporting our bandanas and other inventory while she is still just a pup.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was been a fuzzy and furry ride! I have worked endlessly past my business hours, of 6am through 10pm, seven days a week. I do not have any employees or any other professionals assisting me. I have put to use my variety of experiences in small businesses and retail. In order to keep up with flexibility of service requests, I quit my jobs’ to jump full time into starting my business from scratch. When I’m not with animals, you can find me managing every from social media to legal.

My motto is Happy Pets, Healthy Plants & Relaxed You! I ensure that every pet is loved, every plants cared for, and that everyone feels comfortable while they’re away. I am known for my quick responses, same-day care options & unbeatable quality. My specialties found me; I work a lot with reactive dogs, medication delivery & training exercises.
Pet & Plant Nanny is open 7 days a week from 6AM until 10PM EST. Services include; drop-in visits, walks, appointment rides, house sitting, medication delivery, pet care & plant care. My husband & I also create & sell pet supplies for walks and training, but our most popular items are our bandana’s for you and your pet to match! What makes me stand out? Me! I am a loud and big personality with an unlimited amount of dedication to my profession.
I am extremely proud of how quickly I have been able to grow my business in such a short amount of time. I have obtained some awesome milestones within my first year as Pet & Plant Nanny such as; LLC, License, Insurance, Vendors License, Trademark, Website, Verified FB & Instagram, and nominated for Best of Toledo 2025 Pet Boarding.
