Johnny Wu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Johnny, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me include exercising first for about 20 mins including martial arts, then relax and play with the cats, after that, go to my studio and check the emails and start doing what needed to be done during the day, this include video editing a short film, planning on a feature, producing Cleveland Asian Festival, Cleveland Cultural Gardens’ World and Stage and Cleveland Cultural Gardens’ One World Day.
When I have additional time, I would check on different websites for spam and also other planning needs for International Horror Hotel Film Festival, GoldenBookz Accounting website and social media push of events shared by me or others that I think are important.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Based in Cleveland, Ohio, my work blends film production, video and event coordination, and creative business consulting to deliver engaging multimedia experiences rooted in local culture and global storytelling traditions. With expertise dating back to 1998, I specialize in producing indie films, managing cultural events, and offering graphic design and branding solutions for organizations seeking to stand out. My projects often celebrate diverse communities, historical Asian martial arts, and creative technology, uniquely integrating professional polish with authentic storytelling and collaborative spirit.
What sets my brand and story apart is a commitment to originality, meaningful engagement, and elevating every project with purpose and consistency. By focusing on genuine connections—whether through meticulously curated events, evocative films, or thoughtful branding—I strive to create memorable experiences that honor tradition while embracing innovation. Currently, I’m working on expanding educational resources about Asian martial arts history, designing vibrant branding for local organizations, and producing film and video content that amplifies underrepresented voices within my community.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say my mom and my dad, when I was younger, my mom would often tells me that it’s more important to eat well than buying a toy as the toy excitement last a bit while food will be savored forever.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
during post production for Innerself feature film, almost gave up because the amount of work there is to do and to edit a feature film that is a martial arts comedy musical, it was brutal, but we went through and got it done a year later.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is who I am, I respect people and also expect others to respect me, I don’t lie and I don’t play games, I am not interested in gossips and such, so I am always on time or earlier as well as expect my peers to be so.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I have 10 years left, I will distance myself from people do not have the same value as I do. And enjoy the rest of my life with people I care and love.
