Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Mahaffey.
Hi Kylie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was in 4h and decided to take cake decorating, I went to state my first year and my love for the art just got stronger and stronger. I went to state 5/6 years that I did cake decorating and even won state my senior year. From there neighbors would ask for cakes and that turned into a very small facebook following and now my facebook has grown into a larger audience and I fulfill at least an order every weekend. I added my dirty soda bar in April of 2025 which has only helped my business grow, so much that I am going mobile this spring! I purchased a food trailer and I will be able to be a mobile cupcake and dirty soda trailer. None of this would have ever been possible without family and the support of my followers. I give all glory to God for making this business turn into something I always dreamed of and I am forever thankful and proud to be the owner of Kylie’s Cakery LLC
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the largest struggles has been managing my home, work, and school lives as well as running a business. I am in college for early childhood education, working full time, and love to spend time with my family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always had a creative mindset, loved art and music. Cake decorating just fell in my lap and I have loved to be able to learn more everytime that I decorate a cake. I make fully custom cakes and cupcakes (hopefully adding cookies) and love to express my creativity within each of those! I am most proud of the self taught moments. The moments where I was stuck but I still persevered through and learned a new skill or technique
How do you define success?
Success to me isn’t about making the most money, its about loving what I do and putting smiles on peoples faces. If I can make a cake, cupcake, or a dirty soda that makes someone come back and makes someone smile then I believe that I am succeeding in what I am doing
