Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Marvin Ekpenyong of East Columbus

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marvin Ekpenyong. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Marvin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
A lot of times I get woken up by a phone call. Sometimes it’s business and sometimes it isn’t. I check my messages and there’s usually a lot, so I reply to those. Then I get up, take 3 deep breaths, wash my face and brush my teeth and shower. After getting dressed I either get ready for what I have scheduled that day or I start editing projects that I am working on. If I don’t have anything else to do, I work on social media content. At that point, the first 90 minutes of my day is gone.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by DJ MARV GO HARD and I am the owner/CEO of Most Official Entertainment. My company provides services such as, videography, photography, song writing, model services, marketing, promotional services and more. We have a number of very talented models, musicians, actors and pretty much anything else you can think of in the entertainment industry.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful goes as far back as I can remember in my childhood. My mother was a very positive and encouraging woman. She always told me how powerful I am and will always be.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When my mom passed away I knew I had to keep moving. I used the pain from losing her to push me forward and do more. I know this is what she would have wanted.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes the public me is the real me. If you only know me from the internet, you pretty much know my whole personality. Now how people perceive me in their own eyes is one thing I can control.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If I were immortal I would build what I am building now as far as my company. I just feel like I would take more dangerous risks to get there.
