We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nick Galbincea. Check out our conversation below.
Nick, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I think I’m chasing fulfillment at this time in my life. I believe that being fulfilled leads to being happy, so ultimately, I’m chasing happiness.
I’m chasing fulfillment through my relationship with my wife and son (constantly learning and growing as we go through life together), through my relationship with my extended family, through my friendships (sharing life experiences and understandings, while supporting each other and growing), and through my music. I believe that true fulfilment cannot come through financial gain or material means. I believe that humans were made to create, learn, and grow. So, by creating, learning, and growing in my relationships with the important people in my life, I feel a sense of fulfilment. By creating, learning, and growing with music, I am fulfilled. And because I feel fulfilled, I feel happy in life. I’m blessed.
Simply put, I think if I stopped chasing fulfilment in these areas in my life, I would not be satisfied, I wouldn’t be happy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone! My name is Nick Galbincea and I am the guitarist and vocalist of Wake Magnolia.
Wake Magnolia is a two-piece alternative rock band that was formed in 2017 and is based in Akron, OH. Wake Magnolia’s sound can be described as “dirty melodic rock” comprising of a fuzzy and thick guitar tone, loud complimenting drums, and a booming and powerful vocal. Despite being only comprised of two members, Wake Magnolia is a wall of sound filled with catchy riffs and tons of energy.
Wake Magnolia has been played on more than 100 radio station across the United States, including 107.3 ALT CLE, 91.3FM The Summit, and 88.9FM The Alternation in their home state of Ohio. In 2021, the band was a national finalist in the Jack Daniel’s Battle of the Bar Bands presented by iHeartRadio. In 2022, Wake Magnolia was awarded best rock band in the Cleveland Music Awards. Wake Magnolia has been reviewed and featured in several magazines, including New Noise Magazine, VENTS Magazine and Ghettoblaster Magazine. The band currently has active licensing contracts with Discovery, NASCAR, Miz & Mrs, The Real World and MTV.
If you are looking for a band that is high energy, all about the riffs and loud, real loud… you’re in for a treat!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I received my first electric guitar when I was about 13 or 14 years old. Initially, I had a small Marshall practice amp, but after a few years, I managed to save up for a Marshall half stack (BIG amp). I setup the amp in my parent’s back garage, would crank the volume, and play a plethora of classic rock riffs (“Smoke on the Water”, “Iron Man”, “Rock and Roll”), including some of my original riffs. I’ll never forget the feeling of holding the guitar in my hands and literally feeling the energy (sound waves bouncing all over the place) emulating from the amp. The feeling itself felt like a combination of that “Christmas Morning” feeling as a kid and euphoria. That was the first time in my life that I believe I felt powerful. I found my voice at a young age through the guitar.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I started writing songs.
All of the songs that I write are not about pain, but there are a few. All of my songs usually have some correlation to a specific event or time period in my life. On certain songs, when I play them live, I can emotionally recall where I was in life when I wrote them. Honestly, I believe this is therapy, and has helped me immensely throughout my life and has formed me into the person I am today.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My wife & son, family, freinds, and music.
That is all that matters to me in life.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I play music, I enter a state of meditation. I know this, because I’m so used to my mind constantly thinking, constantly going, none stop. When I play music, things slow down.
I feel most at peace when I’m lying in bed next to my absolute ride or die best friend & sole mate, my wife. After we put our son to bed and finish the day, no matter how good or bad the day was, lying with my wife calms and relaxes me.
