Today we’d like to introduce you to Brigette Rizzo.
Hi Brigette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from Bowling Green State University in May of 2012, as a music educator, and left to become a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in January of 2013. Before leaving I wanted to have a camera to take photos of all of my experiences and actually capture things that were memorable forever. My parents gifted me my first ‘fancy’ camera and I was off. I had my T3i with me wherever I went. Capturing images of my students, friends, and other volunteers on the island of Grenada and throughout the Caribbean. Upon my return in 2015, friends and family were constantly asking me to take photos for them after seeing what I had captured in my travels. Finally in 2019 I opened my Business Brigette Rizzo Photography, setting in stone those moments of time for Families, Seniors, children, and more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been challenges while owning this business, time management, weather & nature issues, arduous clients, etc.
The most challenging part has been navigating self doubt. Those feelings of uncertainty and confidence in my ability to meet the expectations of my clients through all the steps in booking, performing, and delivering the packages. The uncomfortable apprehension of not knowing if you’re qualified, or if your work competes with the oversaturated market. Knowing my worth in my art and being able to stand out while wearing all the hates it takes to run a business.
But the outcome overall is completely worth all the hard moments. The joy on the faces of my clients when they are loving on their family members during sessions. Seeing the images pop up on my for you pages on social media as they are celebrating milestones in life. These moments make all the challenges worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Owning a photography business is more then having a keen eye for beauty, and a ‘Fancy Camera’. I learned to hone in on my craft, I want my clients and families to look back on their photos and remember how I made them feel. Their joy, beauty, and love of self and family when they see the photos around them.
I learned to use my camera while I was serving in a developing country, where resources were few and far between, and the students I worked with, as their music teacher, did not have certain opportunities at their fingertips. I learned how to see their delight in everyday tasks, rejoicing in the simple things in life like learning music under the mango tree.
With the skills acquired during my initial experiences using a camera, and my background in education. My specialization is in those simple milestones in life. The family sessions, seniors sessions, children sessions, and newborn sessions.
My business is best known for offering a variety of mini session opportunities throughout the year, senior sessions, capturing families in every part of life, and newborn/maternity sessions. I’m proud of all my sessions, but what I love the most is capturing families, children and their milestones. What sets me apart from other photographers, is my ability to get even the toughest kiddos to smirk or smile during a session. Also, my colorful vibrant colors in my images.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There are so many things to love about our city. The amount of creatives that live here, the diversity of the people from so many countries, and the wonderful location options we have to capture our clients in.
