Hidden Gems: Meet Hannah Brunk of Enliven Massage and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Brunk.

Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was newly divorced, and a single mom of 2. I had a career in human resources and my MBA. The job was not quite paying the bills, and was very stressful. I started taking night classes for massage therapy, and was very intrigued by the work. It was something I had not dabbled in since I used to massage my mom when I was a kid. My ex-husband would never have allowed me to do this kind of work. 3 months after obtaining my license, I had a large following already, and was loving my evening sessions after working my 9-5. I was having fun, helping people feel better, and making an income that I didn’t realize I could. I eventually left the HR career, once I had a steady client base, a few months later. In 2019, I did an additional training for manual lymphatic drain, and obtained my CLT (Certified Lymphedema Therapist). I was excited to start helping clients who suffered from lymphedema. After covid closed down my business in 2020, I had to get an essential job working at the post office. I stayed there for almost 2 years, while still keeping my business alive. I had realized my clients were missing me, and there was a new pandemic: mental health. In addition, there were many people who were suffering from post-covid complications, new autoimmune conditions, and cancer started running rampant. I made the decision to not only come back full-time, but to also expand to a full wellness center, offering services that help people with all of these conditions in addition to massage therapy. I invested in red light therapy, sound therapy (InHarmony Sound Lounge), PEMF, and infrared sauna. 3 years later, we have built the ultimate destination for health and wellness, and have a large following of loyal customers. We focus on helping those who have been diagnosed with or are recovering from cancer, and have also helped so many others. Additionally, I have started teaching classes to teach other therapists manual lymphatic drain, since it is in such high demand these days. It helps the body detox, reduces swelling, helps regulate the immune system, and so much more. I am excited to start offering online classes soon as well. This venture is my heart and soul, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
obstacles and challenges I have faced include acquiring a lot of debt for the equipment needed, and having some staff issues. We now have a solid group, although small, but we are all very hard working and passionate about what we do, which is most important. Other obstacles were covid (massage therapy was shut down for 3 months in Michigan), and having to move to a larger building and face the challenges that come with that.

In addition to physical and monetary challenges, there were mental challenges as well. Running a business is no joke.
