Story & Lesson Highlights with 115Jai of Columbus

115Jai shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

115Jai, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
First I want to thank you and Canvas Rebel for taking the time to interview me today. The dream that I am chasing is to share my art on the largest scale possible and the ability to make it my full time career. If I stopped music, I would be disappointed in myself and to the people that I let down who have supported me from the beginning.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is 115Jai and I’m a music artist from Columbus, OH. My Dominican upbringing and diverse musical influences have shaped my unique sound. Growing up surrounded by Spanish music, I developed a passion for blending cultures and genres. I was initially trained as an engineer, but eventually transitioned into producing my own beats—melding elements of R&B, hip-hop, rock, alternative, and house to create my distinct sonic palette.

I just got off doing my first music festival performance and now shifting my focus on my next album that I plan to release in 2026.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad for sure! He immigrated from the Dominican Republic so that I could have a better live while also taking care of my family. He built a great life through hard work and dedication. Shoutout dad!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being judged and criticized. I would’ve started my music career sooner if it wasn’t for that. As an artist you are being vulnerable by release your art.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes absolutely. I always try to be as genuine as possible.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing the complete opposite of what I was told to do growing up. My family wanted me to college and get a business degree and get a corporate job. I was involved with music throughout the course of my life. Grew up playing the guitar, started a band as a kid, and was in the school band. There was just something inside me that always said that this is what I need to do.
