Samantha Likes shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Samantha, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Honestly, I think a lot of people are quietly struggling with themselves—mentally, emotionally, even just managing the everyday stuff. We don’t talk about it much because it’s seen as “normal,” but that doesn’t make it easy. I know I’ve had days where just getting through feels like a win, and I’m sure I’m not alone in that. The comforting part is that we’re all human, and the more we open up—even a little—the more we realize we’re not the only ones feeling this way. There’s strength in that kind of honesty.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sammie Leigh—a singer, songwriter, and solo acoustic performer from Ohio. I’ve been in love with music since I was a little kid, always singing everywhere I went. Going to karaoke with my dad are some of my core memories, and now I get to share my own original songs with the world. My music is a reflection of my journey, and I love creating moments that help people feel seen and connected.
When I’m not practicing/performing or working, you’ll probably find me out in nature or lost in a good book (or both) —both help me recharge and spark new inspiration for whatever comes next.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a young’n, I believed I couldn’t do certain things—that I wasn’t capable or worthy. Whether it was bullies or just the weight of life at the time, I often felt like I wasn’t enough. But as I’ve grown, I’ve learned that those beliefs weren’t mine to carry. I *am* capable, I *am* worthy, and those old doubts don’t define me anymore.
If you’ve ever felt the same way, just know—you’re more powerful than you think, and you absolutely can do the things you once believed you couldn’t.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there were times I almost gave up—honestly, for a while, I did. After being bullied and torn down, I stepped away from music completely and hid from the world. But slowly, through karaoke nights and the support of my partner, I found my way back. Now, I know better. I’ll never let life or doubt silence me again. Music has given me joy, purpose, and a reason to keep going—and I’m so grateful for that.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity—being true to yourself and your story. In a world that often pushes us to fit in or put on a mask, I believe staying genuine is everything. It’s what helps us connect deeply with others and create meaningful art, relationships, and communities. For me, honesty and realness aren’t just values—they’re a way of life.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m surrounded by nature—whether it’s sitting by a river, walking through the woods, or just feeling the fresh air around me. There’s something about being outside, away from the noise and rush of everyday life, that helps me quiet my mind and reconnect with myself. It’s in those moments that I find clarity, calm, and inspiration.
