We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gabby Lovelace. Check out our conversation below.
Gabby, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My two daughters. In the last few months, I have had my oldest daughter turn 4, and we have had the joy of welcoming another sweet baby girl to our family. Along with taking some time to be off work and acclimate to life as a family of 4, I have been so proud of my girls at the salon for their help to keep the place running so I could focus on my life at home.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gabby Lovelace, I am a working hairstylist mama. I have been in the industry since 2017, I opened my salon last May. I have had such a heart for working moms and this salon was created with them in mind. We offer a variety of services and are growing everyday! The girls that work alongside of me are some of the best I have had the pleasure of working with, and knowing. Without them I wouldn’t have the salon I have.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband. In every moment of self doubt, comparison and anxiety, he grounds me and will speak life and encouragement into me. Owning a business comes with a lot of challenges, and I have questioned myself a lot- when that happens he reminds me of the purpose the salon holds along with the abilities I hold within myself. He has been a constant encourage along this ownership process.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
‘Do it, even if you have to do it afraid’
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family, helping people and my faith.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope my daughters say that I was loving, fun, taught them to be strong and showed them that they could be successful while raising families. I hope they say that they saw me fall, but that I always got up and tried again, that I taught them they were allowed to take up space.
I hope my staff says that I helped them grow, that I was a point of encouragement and helped teach them something they could use in their business.
I hope everyone that has come in contact with me leaves a little bit better because of an interaction we have had.
