Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Gwendolyn Grimes of Akron

Gwendolyn Grimes shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Gwendolyn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am a person who has always walked a set pathway, but recently I’ve stepped away from the beaten trail. I would call it “purposeful wandering” — a deliberate choice to leave the familiar road my past had set before me. For years, my journey was defined by overcoming obstacle after obstacle, each challenge a battle rooted in past decisions. Eventually, I reached a place where those battles were over, and for the first time, the war with my past was won.

With that chapter closed, I realized it was time to seek something new to discover who I am apart from the struggles that once defined me. This search has led me into unknown terrain and unfamiliar territory. I walk now with a wandering curiosity, trusting that my steps are ordered and guided by God. Though I do not know what I will encounter along the way, I move forward by faith. In this season, I am both a wanderer and a path-walker exploring with intention, yet still trusting the One who leads me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a wife, mother, entrepreneur, Bible teacher, mentor, author, public speaker, and ordained elder. In every role, my passion is to equip, inspire, and empower others to grow in faith, purpose, and personal development. I have a rich academic foundation that includes a Bachelor of Science in Religion, a Theology diploma, and a current pursuit of a Master of Divinity, I like to combine rigorous scholarship with heartfelt ministry. I am an author of Woman to Woman: Becoming the Woman, Wife, and Now Mother God Has Called You to Be, a transformation series that guides women through the complexities of identity, faith, and purpose though the power of prayer.
Furthermore, because of my background in both my vocation and theology I bring a holistic and compassionate perspective to the spaces I inhabit. Preaching from the pulpit, mentoring women, or leading Bible studies, I offer insightful, practical wisdom grounded in scripture and real-life challenges.
Beyond the pulpit and page,I hosts a podcast where I candidly explore faith, womanhood, and personal growth, creating a safe, empowering space for listeners to engage with spiritual and practical topics. I believe my expertise lies in nurturing authentic transformation helping individuals embrace their God-given identity while navigating life’s seasons with grace and confidence.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and must now be released is the season of constant grinding, saying yes to everything, and relying on old metrics to define success. While these patterns once played a vital role in creating opportunities, achieving goals, and building valuable relationships, I believe I have completed the builder phase. It is now time to step into the strategic steward phase intentionally choosing where my time and energy go so that my life is fully aligned with both purpose and fulfillment.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
When I left my full-time job in November 2024 to explore teaching, I thought I was stepping into a clear new direction. Instead, I discovered that the journey was more about learning than landing. Even though I returned to my full-time role, that “detour” taught me: God is in control and He guides my path even when the road seems winding or uncertain. The possibilities are endless I’m not locked into one career path, and I can explore without losing my identity or purpose. Change is difficult but necessary the discomfort was a catalyst for growth, courage, and clarity. I went in looking for a career shift; I came out with a deeper trust in God and a broader vision for what my life could look like

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes but it’s not the entire me. What people see publicly is an authentic reflection of my values, faith, and character, but it’s also the polished side shaped for the space I’m in. The private me carries the same convictions but lives with unfiltered moments, quiet struggles, and personal joys that aren’t always on display. I believe integrity means that whether public or private, my actions and heart are aligned, even if the full picture is only visible to God.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, role, and passions, I would still be a daughter of the King loved, seen, and chosen. My worth wouldn’t rest on titles or talents, but on the unshakable truth that I am created in God’s image, shaped by His grace, and sustained by His presence.
