Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry Randolph.
Hi Kerry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Zanesville ohio on February 12th, 1999 and then raised in crooksville/Roseville ohio most of my early childhood, with both my brother and sister and my mom and my dad. growing up with big dreams of being either a professional skater or a rockstar. I felt connected with a lot of my friends cause everyone around me was shredding, skating the whole town every single day , some of my closest homies was talented at guitar , or playing drums. no doubt in my mind that I wanted to start a band by the age of 8 years old lol. my family had very versatile music tastes, so I feel like that’s how I’ve grown to love a lot of different music even to this day. my dad loved his classic hard rock, always blaring Black Sabbath or Led zeppelin in his truck wherever we went. my sister really got me into a lot of early emo-punk rock bands so I’ve grown to really enjoy music such as My Chemical Romance, Green Day, System of a Down , pierce the veil, bring me the horizon ect. every single day I remember waiting for the school day to end just so I could listen to my favorite songs and go skate around town. my brother and also my sister introduced rap and hip hop to me, music such as early Eminem , and some early lil Wayne. when my sister showed me a band called Hollywood undead which is a good crossover of rock and rap, that’s what motivated me to write my very first song in 5th grade. I knew I loved music , I just wasn’t that good at guitar like my friends lol I was okay at drums but wasn’t that acceptional lol. I rapped my very first song I made for friends at school and they all told me they loved it. it made me excited and passionate for writing songs. I moved to New Lexington ohio and at first I struggled to fit in, it took a while to find my crowd. I was getting in legal troubles and I was going in and out of court for things like truancy, vandalism and B&E’s. I remember being in court and they wouldn’t address me with my real name, just called me a delinquent. I was about 12 years old and of course I was like “wait a minute that’s kinda hard lol” and I started going under that stage name “K.Delinquent” by choice lol in my head I thought “if that’s what they wanna call me that’s who ill be” and I started to really incorporate “KD” in all my songs. I found my rhythm , and was even in the school newspaper for being a beatboxer haha. I branched off on my own path and educated myself on all types of rap and hip hop , learning about all the legends and giving them their flowers in my head. I started to make rap videos and post them on Facebook when I was about 13/14 years old and a few of them went locally viral, earning anywhere from 6k up to 15k views on my videos. I remember feeling that feeling of actually being heard and seen for the first time, and that I was actually good at something!! I met someone who even still to this day I would consider my mentor , Money Mekhi came down to my neighborhood and offered to record my songs in his studio. I was living in new Lexington at the time, bouncing around different towns in the #740. I was about 15/16 years old when I recorded my first EP and then about a year later I performed for my very first time ever at money Mekhis birthday bash. ever since then honestly its been a non stop grind, and a passion. I was creating music constantly and consistently uploading music to Soundcloud, which I still do to this day. I showed love and stayed humble, I found my sound, made connections and found more opportunities that led me to where I’m at today!!! Now you can Search “K.Delinquent” on any of your favorite streaming apps and find my music!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
there has always been obstacles and at first it felt like it was non stop, I was always getting hate just for my ethnicity mainly from people who just wanted to hate on me, and because I was making rap music. teased because of my long hair, and was occasionally called a culture vulture for being a white rapper. which never fazed me honestly because ive always knew I was different , and wouldn’t be as easily accepted. I challenged myself a lot because I felt like I had to prove myself to people. but I quickly realized that no matter what you choose to do in life you will have the people that’s always hating on you or praying on your downfall. the people who’ve accepted me for me, quickly became my friends and apart of my circle. we was the weird kids, still proud to be different than the majority. but I also feel like people who are destined for greatness never take the same path as everyone else, but their own paths. I’ve had fallen outs with some people who I met thru music who I thought would be life long friends turned into rivals. I’ve also been scammed quite a few times online with people offering me more exposure, fake repost pages and all types of different scams lol cause they love to target people who have dreams and ambition. there will always be challenges but how determined are you to chase your dream is the real question. this is who I am and ill never stop being me
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
one thing about me is I’ve never truly found “what I wanna be” career wise like ever lol I’ve thought about somehow pursuing music production , or music management mainly to add on to my music career and potentially make a career some how and someway thru music. I’ve been working retail, and warehouse jobs while doing music on the side, but lately been treating music as a full time thing. what I’m both proud of and what sets me apart from others is my determination and consistency in what I do. I feel like a lot of people try to be that rapper, meanwhile that’s just really who I am. I’m unapologetically me. if some famous person looked me in the face and said I’m not id look him in the eye and tell him that’s he’s wrong. I feel like this is what I was born to do, is make music that people can heal and relate to
What makes you happy?
food haha I always love a good bite to eat. my daughter Nyleahs, makes me the happiest dad ever. my family and my homies I can always count on them to have my back and we always have good times. music, skating and adventuring makes me happy as well you always gotta go get some fresh air and explore!!
