Rising Stars: Meet Taylor Healey of Blue Ash, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Healey.

Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began sketching jewelry designs as early as high school. During my time at Xavier University I studied sculpture and graphic design; this involved creating CAD models, 3D printing them and casting those designs in metal. After graduation I began working as a Jewelry Designer and Goldsmith in Cincinnati. It was there where I received the majority of my industry specific training as I operated as the main custom designer and was able to be the understudy to several master jewelers.
After holding the custom design and goldsmithing role for nearly five years, I decided to venture out on my own. I established Taylor Healey Jewelry in the fall of 2022 before officially opening my doors on January 2, 2023 after months of rigorous deliberation and funding efforts.
The initial months of owning my business were without question the toughest. The hours were endless and the success I saw in my mind was looking further every day. In time I learned how to manage my new role and responsibilities. Slowly, I adapted and learned how to more effectively run a successful business the way I wanted to.
Today Taylor Healey Jewelry is in our third year of operation. We’ve seen steady growth and we maintain a strong foothold within the Blue Ash and Greater Cincinnati area. Customer’s appreciate our small scale attention while receiving top end quality and craftsmanship. Repairs and done on-site and clients meet with me individually to discuss their custom jewelry design needs. We want to continue our growth and progress while maintaining the top end customer service and skill that got us to where we are today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The workload is intense. Applying for funding is a tremendous challenge, especially when you are 25 years old as I was back in 2022. Finding somebody and a bank willing to back you is very difficult. Fortunately I was able to find somebody willing to take a chance on me after reading my business plan and reviewing my work.
The first few months/year in business were the most challenging without question. Seeing the to do list in front of you as a new business owner can make you sick. There are questions you don’t know the answer to, problems you never thought about, and issues that need to be resolved; all while trying to manage the physical business and customer’s you opened up the business to begin with. It takes practice and determination. I tried my hardest to keep my focus on one task at a time. I always told myself that if I do each job in front of me to the best of my ability, once we zoom out and look at the total picture I will be successful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom jewelry design and repair. Clients searching for bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art seek me out from all over the city and country. The most important step to custom jewelry design is listening. I ask questions about my customer’s and learn everything I can about them and how they wish to wear their jewelry. Designs are catered to their taste and incivility. Oftentimes clients will bring heirlooms to me and the custom designs are made with the intention of recycling their goods into the new pieces. We can this Upcycling and it is extremally popular. Despite the restriction of reusing old stones, these projects are my favorite because I know that my artwork will be cherished in a way design alone cannot reach.
I have begun designing my own line of jewelry for the store. We are midway through this process but some pieces have been completed and are available. I’ve always wanted to have a line of my own within my cases and I’m very proud to showcase my work.
What brings me the most pride is also what sets me apart from others. I always tell my clients that they can search far and wide and they will not find somebody else or another business who can match what I will do for them. I will individually meet with them to make certain the design is perfect for them in every way. After creating the CAD model personally I also personally create the physical piece. This individual attention from start to finish can’t be matched. I also provide years of design and repair experience that ensures that I will not only design an exquisite piece of art for my clients, but it will be made to the highest standards for longevity. We are creating heirlooms, not placeholders.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Customer satisfaction in number one, now and always. When I didn’t know what to do for the business and became scared about the challenges ahead, I would remind myself that as long as I made the customer happy I would be successful. Everything I do is focused on ensuring customer’s are infatuated with our work, whether that be freshly made pieces or the restoration of their great grandmother’s 120 year old ring. Jewelry is more than a sparkle, it’s about memories. My work is a physical token of the spectacular moments in our lives.
