Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabi Berkey.

Tabi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I knew home organizing was my next career path when I realized it hit all the highlights of my dream career, including working with clients and their families one-on-one, creating a real difference in their daily lives. So many clients express that they feel like they can breathe again in their homes, their mental space is less cluttered as their homes become more functional, and their whole home organizing goals wouldn’t have been accomplished without an accountability partner and professional to see the potential of their homes in a new way. Organization Pending celebrated three years in business as an LLC in January, and I’m looking forward to many more milestones as clients reclaim their homes and refresh spaces as their needs change and life gets busy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Keeping Organization Pending’s business model as simple and as streamlined as possible was an important part of my sustainability goal, and I ultimately avoided a few headaches by keeping my services to the things my clients value the most. Most clients who reach out are overwhelmed by the items in their homes – they’re not sure where things are, there isn’t space for items where they’re supposed to go, many items have repurchased when they couldn’t be found in the home…and after we start working on decluttering together, we’re able to reveal how much space actually exists, and what makes sense to keep in the space. Through decluttering, many clients are able to regain bins and baskets and shelves – and many clients don’t invest in additional products. Emphasizing sustainable systems also allows me to recommend products specific to families and their homes, instead of seeing what limited options I could have on hand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Tabi Berkey (they/them), Owner/Operator of Organization Pending, offering in-person and virtual home organizing services from Columbus, Ohio. Along with sustainable home organizing services that includes an online list of Community Recommendations for recycling, donating, and disposing of items properly, Organization Pending focuses on creating functional systems for clients and their families through Training Sessions and Kid Organization Sessions. Through these sessions, clients and their families work directly with me, learning the steps of decluttering and organizing with tips specific to their family’s needs and lifestyle. Clients can really benefit from working with a home organizer, hearing how I think about the space, learning the questions I ask when we’re considering our organization options, and having an impartial third party to help them move through decluttering decisions. At times, knowing the specific cause your items are going to support can turn the “maybe” that hasn’t been used in 5 years, into a “donate”.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’ve lived in places with inclusive environments before – but I always felt like I needed to travel a little bit to truly find it. In Upper Arlington, I have Rainbow UA right here, connecting me to my local community, and I was happy to accept a Board Member position at the end of last year. In addition to an inclusive environment, I’ve discovered how rich Columbus is in resources for donating, recycling, and overall sustainable living, making the decluttering process easier at every age. With a wider in-person service radius, I’ve seen a need for increased sustainable options in nearby areas, and hope to see these efforts widespread soon.
